I simply can't wrap my mind around this. Did he really think we were going accept Schiano? It is hard to imagine a worse possible candidate yet Currie was like"Yeah this is my guy."

I'm still in shock. Did this really happen or did my wife lace my sweet tea and I'm tripping ba**s right now?

In the span of about 4 hours I have lost any confidence I had that Currie was up to the task. He should be fired immediately.

I just want an explanation of why they thought Schiano was better than Norvell, Brohm, Campbell, hell, anyone. Right now, I say make a play for Sumlin or Todd Graham if they don't wanna pay for Miles. We're in BIG trouble if we're having to make plays for coaches the caliber of Schiano.

I will never ever support John Currie. I will not ever be comfortable with the University of Tennessee until John Currie is gone.

I agree totally. Those same media heads would trash us in an INSTANT if anything else surfaced about that whole Sandusky situation. Combine that with the fact that he's widely known to be a scumbag, and I'm actually glad that we're going to have to deal with the fallout rather than have him as our coach with that big, child molesting cloud hanging over his head just waiting for the media to uncover something else.

Currie came here without a clue to the passion of this fan base. He walked right into the middle of a mine field on this one... not likely to make his way out without some serious damage to his career.

I have a tough time understanding that Currie is about to embark on a $340 million renovation project and the guy that he was going to get to help him raise that money was Schiano?

It's because Currie is an arrogant, incompetent man. I knew he was a bad hire. Agreeing with firing Phil, trying to push out Snyder, giving Frank Martin to SC. But bringing in an alleged witness to the whole Sandusky incident? I'll be honest, I didn't know he was named an actual eye witness to one of the sexual acts, but I'm also not a college AD. It's not my job to do a background check on a potential hire. How did Currie think that was going to bring in recruits?! I typed his name in Google and a deadspin article popped up, "Greg Schiano is actually as big of an as***le as you thought" was the title. He also hit a cyclist with his car in his first week in Columbus. When he was fired from the Bucs, he dropped down to coaching HIGH SCHOOL before Ohio State... And then he went 68-67 in a Big East headed by all stars like butch jones, dave wannstedt, randy edsall, USF, and I think I read that he never beat WVU. The only good team in then Big East during that time. Who knows the logic behind this disastrous idea. Currie had the White House chiming in. No way he lasts as AD. Congress offiicals got involved. This was a mess. And now, we'll have to pay Schiano for all of this. I cannot believe today.

Honestly, We played a game yesterday, the season has been over less than 24 hours...and the $*%t show started almost immediately. Administration after administration continues to make the hiring of a coach look like the most difficult thing in the world. I watch UCLA do it. I watch Florida do it in football and basketball. Most schools do it, it's not that hard. IT'S NOT!

Every time, every darn time, it becomes complete chaos, complete, and unnecessary drama ensues. It is unbelievable.

1. He thought Schiano could beat Smart and Saban Every year? Because WHY would you not hire a coach who you think can WIN?

2. He thought Schiano was the best fit to right the ship after the WORST YEAR EVER in tennessee football history?He picked Greg F******G Schiano to build this program back up?

3. John Currie fired Butch when the team still had a chance of making a bowl game to get an early jump on locking up Greg Schiano?!

I Think we're all pretty much in stunned disbelief. Thank you Volnation, for sounding off on this idiotic choice (less a few northern liberal exiles trolling around here). There is no way through this mess without the scalp of Currie, and perhaps Bev. If she sanctioned this she should be shown the door too.

How about filling the administration with University of Tennessee people that love this school and its storied history. I think that begins with Coach Fulmer and Peyton wading in with flailing arms and all.

This afternoon I was about to tell Freak to kill my name, but glad I waited til tonight. What will the morning bring?

Since Cosby and more recently Weinstein we are in an environment where accusations are taken seriously and as proof. While I have problems with that I'm a realist and it is what it is.

So, Schiano comes with PR baggage that must be dealt with. Now if he were a highly coveted coaching prospect that PR hit might be worth dealing with.

However, given he isn't some highly sought after coach AND his NFL tactics were questionable AND he's been implicated in the PSU scandal it makes ZERO SENSE you move on him. None, nada.

Dumbest thing I've seen in a while.

Well it was the explosive hire Currie said it would be.

Maybe the AD and administration should be reading VN. They would have known better

Currie has obviously lost face in the court of public opinion (not just VOL fans). Unless boosters were ok with this, he may as well resign.

John Currie completely failed this from the get go.

1. By not leaking potential candidates, there was no way to judge how the fanbase would react to any particular hire.

2. Waited far too long to fire Butch Jones, therefore allowing Florida the upper hand on potential candidates.

3. This Schiano fiasco seems like a panic-mode situation similar to what was faced when Dooley was hired. Currie should've waited to solidify the right hire, not panic because Florida had achieved their hire.

This is my take on the whole situation as well. It's not that he's an underwhelming coach. It's that he's an underwhelming coach ON TOP of the baggage that comes with him that makes me question why tf this was ever even an option.

Maybe I'm judging his PSU connection too harshly. Idk. The national media certainly seems to think I am, but there is virtually no difference in my opinion on that front now than there was at this time yesterday.

What a cluster**** this has become.

This whole thing makes no sense to me. I wonder if Currie or Haslam knows and likes Schiano personally and was trying to do him a favor at the expense of our football program. Kind of like when the boss's buddy gets the promotion over someone else more qualified.
