My grandfather passed away thursday night so todays game will be the first time in my adult life that I won't be able to call or go see him after the game to talk about the Vols! My grandfather was 87 and a WWII vet so I have heard many stories over the years about UT football! My tribute to him will be orange and white flowers on his casket! To all my fellow Vol fans I say share the love of Volunteer football to all who will listen! GO VOLS
Reading posts from you guys has really helped me out today! All I need now is a good win from the VOLS!

Sorry for your loss! My granddaddy passed nearly 10 years ago. Still talk to him all the time (he doesn't talk back though). Will miss him, my mom, grandma and my uncle forever. Now I am the old one at 36. But, Tennessee Football means everything to me. 365 days a year I am thinking UT football. V,B!

I understand 100% what you are going through. I lost my papaw before football season started last year and could not watch a single game. It was way too painful. He use to take me on hunting trips to Catoosa and it would always be around the Vandy / Kentucky games. We'd listen to John Ward and love every minute of it. I was really really young but remember being always glued to the radio listening to the play by play and he's the reason I love sports so much now. When he passed, I got him a really nice UT set of decorations. His birthday was the other day and we ate a football birthday cake with the checkerboard endzones for him. Trust me, it will be much, much different and I'm not sure if it gets any better. The first game of last year, I sort of made it up to the graveyard, turned the radio up and set in my truck next to his grave for kick off and some of the first quarter. I got too emotional and had to leave and couldn't bring myself to watch anything or go to any games. So this is my first game in almost a year really that i'll watch all the way through. It's bittersweet because I'm excited and sad all at the same time. Your in my prayers buddy!

I'm lucky enough to still have my grandpa, and the stories about him living in Neyland will never get old. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm happy that you two had the bond of UT football for so long.

Sorry for your loss. My father was a big VOL fan and brought me up loving the VOLS. Introduced me to Neyland and Dickey and Battle. He has been gone several years, but he will always be in my spirit at the games just as your grandfather will be in you. They gave us a gift we will always have with us.

One day with my granddad and my uncle would have an incredibly high value. I couldn't even quantify it. Extremely jealous of you.

I've been a VOLS fan my entire life and attend UTK in 1993. Didn't graduate, because I joined the Air Force in 1995. Every VOL game is a special treat for me when I can see it. Whether its in Afghanistan, another state, etc. Especially now since I live in Arknasas. I have a flag outside the house, huge "T" on the back window of Expedition, car flag on Jeep and Expedition, and 2 TN license plates on the front. I represent!

Every time I watch, especially from the Hill, I get a lump in my throat because of my Papaw. He introduced me to the VOLS. He's from Knoxville, and while he's still here, he's a shadow of his former self due to age and illness. For so many of us the Tennessee Volunteers are so much more than just a team and just a game. Sorry for your loss. Great post. God Bless and Go Big Orange!

Sorry for your loss. My grandfather passed away last year after the Alabama game. He battled cancer for a while and passed out during the game. We thought he wasn't going to wake up again. He woke up in the middle of the night and asked if we got em. Had me watch my first Vol game on his lap when I was a month old. His birthday was always around the Florida game weekend so that one and the Alabama game are going to be hard without him there to watch them with us. At least they pass on their passion to a new generation and we carry it on.

I feel for all of you. My dad passed away back in April. WW2 vet, UT grad class of 1950 thanks to the GI Bill. Introduced me to UT football when I was very young. We saw many games together in Knoxville and on the road (I grew up in Chattanooga). My wife and I were at dinner last night and I got a lump in my throat thinking about today's game being the first season opener that he and I can't talk about. I live in the Chicago area now and we would talk every week about the game and then the next week's. God, I miss him. He isn't here but I know he will be watching tonight. I hate the Big 10, love the SEC and our Big Orange.

God bless all you guys - GBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everytime I walked in I would have to give a rundown on all new recruits and absolutely any rumors involving the Vols!
