Is there a snake expert in the house?

I found this snake in my driveway today, killed from a car. It's rather small, maybe about a foot or so, I'm thinking it's a real young one.
From the looks of the head i'd say it's venomous, but I don't think it's a water moccasin, I know it's not a rattler, anyone have an idea of what it is. I have a couple dogs & don't want them to get bit.

It's not venomous for sure. I am an expert at copperheads, cottonmouths and the 3 main rattlesnakes here in Alabama, the eastern diamondback, timber or canebreak rattler and the pygmy or ground rattler. It is not one of those and it's not a coral snake from the sandy coastal area. 95 % sure it's one of the many king snake "constrictor" species that are common around here.

I just assumed it was venomous due to the arrow shaped head.

Thanks for the info.

Speaking of the Great One, I heard a caller on Finebaum's show yesterday refer to him as Osaban Bin Lyein.

All I know is that it's time for you to stain that deck. :)

What do you know about dead snakes? I thought you were the expert on dead bears! :p

From the coloration I would say it's probably an Oakland Raider belly crawler..

It's either a corn snake -- some lack red pigment entirely -- or a gray rat snake, I believe. What did the belly look like? That would help differentiate the two. I have a weblink for a snake I.D. guide from when I lived in Florida. I actually killed a corn snake in my driveway, only to research and discover that they are one of the most amenable to keeping as pets.
