What time to leave from Knoxville for Battle at Bristol?

Says up to. Words are your friends. They've never done it that way. They just intermittently briefly stop it, then let traffic flow again.

Been going to BMS almost as long as you and I too have never witnessed the 'up to' hour long delay. But I'm rarely ready to cross Volunteer Parkway within a hour of the checkered flag. Just trying to give those folks attending 'The Battle' a heads up on potential traffic delays.

Have a goodun, Bill.

Bet post game some will report horrid traffic and some report no issue. Yet all will be in same traffic, perspective

park across from the track if you can, people sell parking in there front yards or use to,that is the easiest way to get out
we did park way up the highway one time and hitched a ride in and back out,we got home in JC in time to catch the last of the broadcast on TV

but we did luck up and get a ride in the back of some pickups to where we were parked

I go to most of the races there. I like coming down Volunteer Pkwy, turning left on Weaver Pike and following it to 394. You will avoid all the traffic on 11E in front of the racetrack.

in medium traffic. Two hours.
I40-I81, I drive it often.
One thing that will be hard to gauge is the traffic
around the track.

all of this is really helpful for me, I will be coming from Nashville and this is my first time to Bristol.
looking at google maps, is it worth it taking 11W out of Knoxville rather than going 40/81 like I would assume everyone else will be doing?

If you have friends there, I would suggest you go Friday night and spend the night with them. Getting to this ball game is not going to be anything like getting to a race in Bristol. I expect very heavy traffic and many parking issues.

Most race fans know where they are going and where they are going to park. You've got probably 100k people that are first timers at Bristol .

I wouldn't as long as there is no major construction or accidents on I-40. Check TDoT before leaving. 11W is much slower going, with 2-lane roads part of the way, lower speed limits, traffic lights, etc. If you took it to Bristol, it'd probably add an hour to your trip. Good luck and have fun.

No. Cops shuttle you everywhere. Parking is roughly 245,789,349 times easier at BMS than Neyland. The Waze App, Google Maps, the eleventy billion road signs.

But by all means people. Just start heading from Knoxville Monday. I would say tomorrow, but y'all will crap yourselves if you see how effortlessly the NHRA traffic rolls through this weekend. And then leave after the first quarter of the Battle of Bristol. It might even be wise to just leave after the Kenny Chesney concert and watch from home.

Its the literal scenic route.

I'll take 11E if I'm going to Erwin and I'm in no hurry, but otherwise take the interstates.

Anybody know of a RV rental place in or around the Knoxville area that might still have inventory available or am I just SOL? I live in Nashville area and it's all dried up

EDIT - I found a rental. If anybody out there is still looking in the Nashville area and like me, hasnt had any luck, then please call Candy's Campers out of Murfreesboro. They had 2 travel trailers still available yesterday for rent in their Scottsville KY location.

NO!
11-W will kill you time wise. Beautiful scenery but, it is easy to get behind slow pokes or some farmer on a tractor going slow and blocking traffic.
Stick to the Interstate.

My mom lives right off of exit 57 on interstate 81 and it takes right at 1 hr 15 minutes going 75 mph from Neyland and BMS is extra 20 minutes. Should be there in less than 2 hr evening with moderate traffic but would not leave too late in case of traffic.
