let the kid go where he can be near his family. i seem to remember a u t situation with tyler of the basketball team that had the same situation with his dad. i know this is 2 different coaches, but still. chances are we won't even play mich or mich st in next 3 years. it would be possible with the outback or the other new year's bowl, where the sec meets the big ten, but what are the odds ? i like cdd, but i can't agree with him on this. just my opinion. flame away, if you must----

So he can appeal Dooley's decision to the board and they can decide to overrule Dooley or not.

Tyler got a hardship waiver from the ncaa or he would not have been able to play the first year, Arnett can do the same thing. I am going to trust the coach on this one, since I don't know the entire situation.
Not the same thing at all. Tyler Smith's father was diagnosed with terminal cancer AFTER Tyler went to play for Iowa, not before. Arnett's dad didn't have 2 heart attacks and start getting dialysis. He has been very sick for several years, as I understand it. Arnett made the decision to leave home and come to UT despite his father's illness, now he's trying to use it as an excuse and to pressure Dooley into letting him have his way. What a whiner.
yeah, i understand, but the kid needs to be near his dad.we will be just fine without him. we have a few guys who can play the slot. i just feel for him and his family. i like arnett and pray everything works out for the best.
Tyler was released from his scholarship. From the reading I understood that inorder to get a hardship to play immediately the player had to be released by the previous school?
Isn't it more a case of not wanting to set a precedent?
Sure, maybe we won't miss Arnett that much, but what if this happens again with an outstanding player who wants to jump ship, due to impatience with the rebuilding process, or whatever?
Someone earlier posted that policies are written so that you don't have to go through the whole decision-making process every single time. Any parent can understand that, as children are born lawyers, arguing everything you say down to the last syllable.
And I'm still very skeptical that this is about the dad, as opposed to wanting to hop on a program that currently has a stronger pulse than ours.
