Don't get me started...

1) White man's guilt over all the crap that came before. As Billy Joel says, we didn't start the fire...but we sure as heck feel guilty about it. In the 60s a part of the male population went off to war and part went off to Canada, but most stayed home and argued. A lot of us grew up watching all of that and it affected us. Many are better men but there is still this societal guilt complex that says we still need to pay. At the very minimum we can't do anything to offend anyone for fear they will bring up some injustice done by people long dead. Consequently, we lost our sense of humor and are not allowed to make a joke at anyone's expense except of course middle class white guys.

The result now is shown rampantly on TV, especially in most popular SITCOMs. Few 30-40 year old caucasian men are allowed to have a backbone or be a positive role model for their kids etc. Disney Channel is the worst--all dads are idiots at best. Unfortunately, this demographic still makes up the bulk of several important classes--working, managerial, political etc. And because we have this stunted self perception we are having a very hard time figuring out how to get our country back on track.

2) Women's Equality. Why did women have to drop down to be equal with men? In the past you were expected to behave a certain way around women, open doors, act civilized but then you were allowed to be a smelly foul man when you were away from them. Then we made everything equal and allowed women off their rightful pedestal and down into the locker rooms--suddenly we had no where to go where we could fart and belch with pride.

3) People's Court. The idea that you could sue anyone for your dumbassery is the worst thing that could happen to the country. We don't need a label on a box of matches that says "WARNING, FLAMMABLE!" We need to go back to assuming that people will either learn their lessons with minimal loss of appendages, or they will learn to live without appendages. When I was in Ranger School we had to learn how to mountain climb and one of the skills you learned was the proper way to fall. We practiced and were tested on a 50' wall. The standard was you had to do 3 correct falls or 100 incorrect because the assumption was that if you could survive 100 incorrect falls you were probably tough enough to make it up the mountain and back. We need to bring that attitude back into the country.

off my soap box.

the wussification of america? Serious question, but thought the zone might give me some accurate answers, and some creative ones as well. When did we, a generalization, become wusses? What was the event that made us say, gosh darn it, he cussed at him, or dagblameit, that has to hurt his feelings.

I think it started when they started telling parents that some toys were too dangerous to buy. That generation may have started the whole process. I would even say about '81. They also stopped the old body vette that year. Yep, I'd say '81.

No, C3 vette ended in '82. Didn't have an '83. C4 began in '84.:banghead2: Although '81 was the last year of the gen 2 camaro.:salute:

I knew I was close. Had a red Boogie nights looking '81 vette. Don't know much about cars. Just always wanted one. The wife and I would get a babysitter and go out with the T tops down. That led to a 3rd kid one night. You know what they say about the vette.

I bought it for 8k, put a stereo in it, had the transmission rebuilt and sold it back to the guy I bought it from for 7k when I found out we were preggy and needed a bigger family truck.
