Do you have any real facts that prove without a doubt he is an Elite coordinator? Being 2nd in yards per game allowed for one year against a horribly weak schedule isn't proof.
Shoop is 1-15 as a DC against top 25 teams. I'm not saying it's not a great hire but it's not a slam dunk can't miss like many believe. Top 25 defenses especially against weak schedules isn't necessarily that impressive. Boston College defense finished #1 in yards allowed this year yet they finished 3-9. Do you really believe their defense was better than Alabama's? So if as a team we finish in the top 25 that will be good enough? How can he be considered an elite coordinator when he has never beat an elite team as a coordinator?
Slam dunk hire.. If Jancek from what I hear wasn't flaunting around town with 20 something year old women while married maybe he still would be on the staff.. Maybe Butch has warned him and warned him and had Shoop in mind while Jancek still did what he did.. I'm jus going off speculation but I think we upgraded esp 4th down stops..I am happy with the hire because Butch got the guy he wanted but in reality he's never had an elite defense. In 2014 PSU ranked #2 in yards per game but they played a horrible schedule and still managed to lose 6 games. I don't think Shoop is 100% for sure an upgrade over Jancek. Everyone likes to point out how great he was at Vanderbilt but from 2011-13 they played a very weak schedule and when they played good to elite SEC teams it was the same result as Vandy has always had. Example in 2013 Shoop's third and last year at Vanderbilt which should have theoretically been his best defense they gave up 39 to Ole Miss, 35 to USC jr, 51 to Missouri, 31 to UGA, and 56 to A&M. This past year PSU played a horrible schedule so it's no surprise their defense is rated highly but like voluntildeath pointed out MSU put up 55 points, Ohio State rushed for over 300 yards and even Northwestern ran at will on them. Maryland was beyond horrible this year but in their first game after firing Edsall they were able to play PSU down to the wire while racking up almost 500 yards of offense. I think people saying things like if Shoop had been our DC last season we would have never lost to Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama etc. are being very shortsighted. I could make a strong case that Jancek is the reason we were even in those games and Shoop may not have even faired as well. Alabama beat MSU 38-0 and MSU beat Penn State 55-16. One could argue that Shoop has never had elite talent to work with and that's probably true but overall his resume is not that impressive. Is he over $600k per year better than Jancek probably not. The reality is Shoop is 1-15 as a DC against top 20 teams with the one win being against a Georgia team in 2012 that finished with 5 losses. Not saying that record is necessarily a direct reflection on him but it does mean the jury is definitely still out and this hire could go either way. Not a slam dunk like most believe imo.

Jancek and flaunting 20 y/o girls has nothing to do with my post but since you mentioned it the same thing may have happened with Shoop at Columbia (just saying). I highly doubt that is the reason Jancek was "mutually" fired. CBJ ego is the reason. They should have just went to the Emerald Club and sorted it out. I was not in favor of Jancek being the DC originally but I actually think he did a good job and was getting better each season.
That lame quote is the best you could do? That's weak even for you. It's a joke I've actually started to like your posts a little. Sometimes......
Msu against shoop 55 points. Msu against bammer 0. Trying to wrap my mind around that
Maybe this will help a bit - MSU had 27 points off of turnovers, including 1 pick six and 1 fumble return for a TD.
