Basketball or Football. For me its basketball because they have the opportunity to make a NC run, and football may be more of a rebuilding year with all the players they lossed.

Why is this in the recruiting forum? Football all the way though, but can't wait for Basketball season either. Go Vols!

One team is ranked 6 in the preseason, another is 20-25.

Guess which one lends itself to bigger expectations, and therefore, more excitement.

What about a possible FF run matching the possibility of a coach getting fired?

Definately more excited about football. Basketball isn't even close.

Say what you want, but Football is and always will be the most popular sport in America. No other sport comes close to getting the TV ratings that football does.

I am more excited about the possibilities of this year's basketball team. But, I still think that I am more excited about watching our football team play this year - if that makes any sense. Basically, all of my football excitment has to build up a week - maybe two - to get to that big game on Saturday...and each game means so much. That really gets you excited when watching a game. The games in basketball are obviously closer together and more plentiful...so the excitement factor is downgraded some for me for each individual game...

Football, because, well, it is football. I am as happy as anybody about the recent surge and surrounding excitement about the basketball program, but it will always be football.

And before we get overwhelmed with this "National Championship" run stuff in the cage, please remember how difficult it is to run through a single elimination tournament with dozens of teams that can beat you on any given night. While we are in the early stages of building a program that can consistently compete with anyone on the court, I would still say the odds favor winning our next national title in football before sweeping through March Madness.

If one's excitement is tied to the potential to succeed during that season, then perhaps hoops gets the nod.

But if you are like me and simply love the excitement of football season, game days, rivalry games, etc. -- even as UT struggles -- how can you not be pumped for the season to start?

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Pearl's product to thrive, but football is where my heart is.

I agree with your warnings...i've handed them out recently myself. But - that is where the excitement comes in. March Madness is that...madness. Having the tools to potentially make the run is as exciting as it gets in basketball. I worry about how the fans will react if the team exits again in the 16 (or worse, the second round). If we turn out to have as good of a regular season as we think we might - that would hurt. But..it makes it exciting regardless. Winning the national championship isn't that exciting really - that just feels good. The game is over, the excitement is in the game..and getting to the end..not th end itself (IMO). So, winning a national championship is not a prerequisite for being excited about the basketball team - but...having the tools to potentially get in the hunt for one..that is exciting to me.

I think that my answer comes from the fact that I am more excited about basketball season than football season. I can also guarantee you that I will be more excited for (almost) each individual football game than (almost) any basketball game. However, sitting before either season starts, I am generally more excited about the basketball team.

You can rest assured that I will have butterflies in my stomach every Saturday morning we have a game this fall.

Why can't we just be excited about both? I know I am. I think the first 3 games of the football season will show me if I'm more excited about football or basketball.

There's no doubt I'm more excited about football. Don't get me wrong, I also love watching basketball, but football will always be the No. 1 sport at UT and in the US.

I think that you're right. Because of how the seasons play out calendar wise and when basketball becomes important, you can devote your full game-watching and gut-wrenching attention to both sports, really. There is no reason for us as fans to pit the two against each other. I do know that I follow football recruiting more closely, and enjoy the football offseason more than the basketball offseason.

I am more excited about basketball because i know what to expect from the football team. Always playing it close and not hammering teams like we should. The play calling will be the same to. Run on first down pass on second and run the toss sweep on third down that never names a first down:furious3:

Basketball by a mile. Football is always exciting, but the basketball team looks pretty awesome this year. It's way more exciting to me. :)
