What really went wrong in Knoxville? THE CAL PERSPECTIVE

I'm certainly not arguing differently. I watched every game SC played last season. They played well against Cal, Oregon, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Nebraska (played well, not great), and Michigan (I suppose I could include stanfurd too). The other 6 games they would have been beaten by any top team. Whether it was a matter of them playing down to their competition, or the fact that 5 of their 6 easiest games happened to be in the middle of the season when they had a lot of injuries, I'm not sure. All I know is that they weren't nearly as good as the 2003, 2004, or 2005 team. That's not to say they stunk.

They were adjusting to

1) No reggie bush
2) no matt leinhart

Their offense was hot n cold all year. Their Defense was solid almost every game. This year the team is going to be more in synch, and Booty will be much more confident as a starter. Finally, the recruiting class we brought is nothing short of scary.

10 Things More Likely To Happen Than a Cal Victory Over SC:
1. Iran becomes a secular democracy.
2. Nevada bans gambling.
3. Lindsey Lohan finds sobriety.
4. George Bush properly pronounces "nuclear."
5. Tampa Bay Devil Rays=World Series Champions.
6. Hugh Hefner denounces female nudity in magazines.
7. WMDs are found in Iraq.
8. David Duval wins the British Open.
9. Stone Cold Steve Austin wins an Oscar for "The Condemned."
10. Teddyhead posts a coherent, properly punctuated sentence with no grammatical or spelling errors.

Worse Cal teams than this one have hanged with or beaten, better SC teams than we will see next season.

you still don't have a running game and you still don't have a single playmaker returning at WR. I'm not saying you won't be good or even great, just that this team isn't flawless. Bush bailed you out of at least 5 games in his career. You don't have that type of player anymore, unless mcknight is really all that.

I'll be sure and remind you of this doozy when Patrick Turner goes 10-177-3 against you.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't exactly say they don't have a running game either. USC has several of the most highly rated running backs in the nation over the last four years on their team. Surely at least one of these guys will pan out. Recent USC history would suggest that ALL of them will end up being tremendous.

turner has ONE game where he has gone over 100 yards. ONE. In two years.
Which is comparable to Robert Meachem's contributions going into last year. How did that turn out for you? I am at a complete loss how fans of a program that has never accomplished anything of significance can delude themselves into thinking they actually match up with the gold standard in college football. It would be hilarious if it we're so pathetic.

They aren't perfect. You act as though SC regurally destroys us on the field. Which is not true.

at SC 2002: palmers winning TD pass clearly bounces off the ground, yet is still called a TD. (A call that would have been easily overturned if they had replay)
at Cal 2003: we won
at SC 2004: we're 1st and 7 on the goal line in the final minute down by 5 points.
at Cal 2005: our backup QB throws 4 ints and we get blown out
at SC 2006: up at halftime, game tied into the 4th quarter, sc pulls away with two late tds.

Tedford's 2 plays away from having a winning record against SC. Almost doesn't count for squat, BUT it does prove we can match up.

edit: and reggie bush had zero career TDs against Cal.

1 win in 5 games, real impressive. Do you want a cookie or something?

no, but implying that cal winning in berkeley in 2007 would be some kind of miracle just doesn't hold up to recent history.
Recent history-USC has played in 5 consecutive BCS bowls and won 2 National Titles. You guys won a Holiday Bowl. Those are the facts. Accept your reality.

not many Vol supporters out here, but I cashed in big last year on bets with trash-talking Cal fans who couldn't understand how hungry the Vols would be in last year's opener at Neyland.

Here's to round two! :toast:

That's hilarious. Are they dusted off from last year and ready to put their money where their mouths are again? Maybe I could get some of that action. Wish I could come out for the game but it doesn't look like it will happen (unless I win the lottery and can quit work).
