This is what really happened. As we all know at this point Strong was hired and had accepted the job to become Tennessee’s next HC. He stayed behind in Louisville to have his last team meeting. We also know CBJ had accepted the Colorado HC position. So what really happened? Well I’ll tell you.

The ghost of Robert Neyland himself had been looking down over his great orange nation. Neyland had not been happy with the results of the coaching search and decided to take things into his own hands.

His first stop was a visit to coach Butch Jones. As he appeared to CBJ he told him in his demanding voice.

“Coach Jones you’re going to go coach my Volunteers. You will lead them through the T with pride, honor and dignity. You will return my Volunteers back to prominence. You will Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes. Do you understand son.”

CBJ replied, coach Neyland they have already hired Coach Strong and I’m going to Colorado. Neyland just looked at him and said “son you heard what I said”. So on a leap of faith CBJ called Colorado and told them he would not be accepting their offer to become their HC. His wife didn’t even understand what was going on at this time.

Neylands next stop was a visit with coach strong. This was a brief visit as it did not take long to convince coach strong that Tennessee was not the place for him. At this point coach Strong notified Hart that he would not be accepting the position to become The Volunteers HC.

Now back at Harts office where he sits in total disbelieve in his luck. Thinking to himself, how am I going to get a coach that is going to satisfy this rabid fan base. Holding his head and about to cry Neyland appears above him. Neyland says “son pull yourself together you’re not in Alabama anymore. Man up, you’re a Volunteer now.” Hart looked up and saw Neyland and about sh*t himself. Neyland looking down and Hart tells him.

“Our program is the state of disgrace and I am fed up with the incompetence that I have had to witness. Now son this is what you are going to do. You are going to hire CBJ to lead my Volunteers. You will fly out and you will bring him home. I don’t care if you’re up 48hrs. straight you will get it done.”

Hart looking on in disbelief didn’t say a word he just nodded. Then while still looking at the Great General Neyland wide eyed and scared he slowly picked up his phone and told his secretary “tell them to get my plane ready I’m heading to Cincinnati.”

Now no one will ever admit to this but now you know the rest of the story.
Enjoyable reading with my first cup of coffee this morning. The great General Neyland needs to intervene in the Defensive Coordinator search.

I love ghost stories.

Ok. I was just reading along until I saw this. Unreal.

Yesterday, yesterday mind you, I take my wife to Knoxville, from Bristol to go Christmas shopping. My first stop is to drive by the stadium. As we're driving by there I tell her "look, the General is looking at you.", (speaking of course of the statue).

Then the whole "you can't spell BUTCH without UT"

"Half bear the other half cat".

Twas late on night, in the middle of the day,
Two dead boys got up to play;
Face to face, back to back -
They drew their swords and shot each other.

The deaf policeman, hearing the noise,
Came and rescued the two dead boys.
If you don't believe my story is true,
Just ask the blind man - he saw it, too.

...makes about as much sense.

As The Insider who was there, let me tell you, I've never seen or even dreamt of such goings on as I witnessed on that historic night.

So the Ghost of General Neyland could have tapped any coach in the country, and he chose Butch Jones? Who would the Ghost of Bear Bryant have chosen-- Skip Holtz?

I believe this was the ghost of Bear Bryant imitating Gen Neyland. And thinking to himself as Jones was being introduced, "Wait till they get a load of "individuals".

As it turns out, either one of them would not be the coach they were looking for. Both were fired from their jobs and have not yet proven they are good coaches.

Oh man this is just painful to read
The comment “The resemblance is uncanny “ always and still makes my Arse wanna chawl of redman. A football player and championship boxer at West Point who also was national championship winning General in the U.S Army in WW2 . When I think of Jones I think of a duck fart who I believe is 5’8 in 3Inch shoe lifts , was 2nd chair trumpet blower & hoisted the OL‘ Battle Of Bristol trophy .
