What RB will start next year?

I've never found much correlation with coaching and a returner. Some guys just have a gift. I'm not talking blocking schemes etc, I just mean a guy that can catch the ball, look up at the mayhem coming towards him, and consistently get downfield through it.

yeah sure some people just have that gift. i wasn't talking about a coach coaching the guys returning the ball cuz speed and athletic ability are god given talents, I was talking more about the blocking. thats what a special teams coach does. thats whats been lacking in our special teams. I know that we have the players that can make people miss and then show that burst of speed and the ability to read blocks. but when noones blocking it doesnt do the returner a bit of good.

To tell the truth we blocked pretty good it was just the guys we put back there couldn't make the one guy miss or they couldn't turn the corner and take it all the way. Really think Berry could have returned about three for TDs this year. Punt returns that is.

fulmer was afraid he would get hurt! and i cant really blame him for that cuz he's the best athlete on defense if not the entire team

I'd say at the end of a game in which we are trailing would be a good time to insert Berry at KR. That'd either give our best athlete the ball in space or force the defense to kick short to keep it away from him. Either way we probably end up with good field position.

He needs to be used at different times at PR not on KR. More injuries happen on KRs than PRs.

The other running backs have proven nothing. In Arian's absence, the running game got even worse. I believe our rushing attack will be better next year, but it will be primarily because of the improved OL play.

I tend to believe this as well. Arian did well his Junior year. Under the new offensive system, the entire offense sucked. All it takes is one or two players that cant learn or pick up the system and the entire system fails.

Hopefully with a passing attack this year, we will have less linebackers and safeties in the box this year.

I'm gonna have to go with Lennon Creer on this one. For now. I think his potential is out-of-this-world and Hardesty can come in when it's important and short yardage. Oku should get some carries, but I expect Creer to do most of the work with Hardesty cleaning it up a little.

I believe it was posted earlier in this thread, and my apologies for not remembering who posted it, but...I think you'll see a "Thunder & Lightning" combo, much the same as at SoCal. And with apologies to the OP, I agree that, for now, Hardesty & Creer are the early favorites.

Fall practice should be interesting. I have a feeling that the competition for those spots will be very intense. Good.

Go Vols.

:p

And Creer starting at punt return and kick off return.

Creer doesn't look like a special teams monster. He looks like a pure RB to me. Oku may get a shot to return kicks but we'll see. Creer needs to be the starter. He has good speed and vision. So I think Kiffin will really do damage with him this year.

I as well think we need Creer starting as he is the pure runner...No to special teams though

It needs to be Hardesty providing he isn't injured. He is explosive when he gets his hands on the ball. But if he isn't well, Creer will do a good job. Both are very skilled.

I just want an RB that will punch through a CB that he outweighs by a good 25 lbs. instead of using "the fancy feet" to try and distract/entertain him out of a tackle.

And an RB that can outrun DEs (though the SEC does have some fast ones... a DE should never run down an SEC starting RB IMO).

With that said, I think Creer and Hardesty are our guys.

Yeah I see them in a two-back system. I see Hardesty as Kiffin's Lendale White and Creer as Kiffin's Bush. Not saying they are that good but just saying they will have roles similar to that. I see Oku getting significant time only if one of those guys has an injury.

I know hes commited to bama right now, but If Trent Richardson visits Tennessee and changes his mind. Then I'd like to see what he can do.

would like to see Creer in the mid of the field with Hardesty alot in the redzone. Hardesty runs hard, but lacks vision, he picks a lane and runs hard , but sometimes thats right into the pile
