The only others to come close would have been Johnny Majors in '56 and Heath Shuler in '93.

If Chuck Webb hadn't blown a knee, things might have gotten interesting in 1990.

If he hadn't blown his knee in '98 and could have run for 1500+ yards, he might have had a shot.
Isn't '98 the same year that Ricky Williams broke the rushing record? If so, then Jamal wouldn't have had a chance.

Yep, that was 1998.
I remember it now, because on the way out to Tempe we stopped in Dallas and some Texas fan that worked at a Boston Market was talking trash because Ricky had won the Heisman and his friend looked at him like he was an idiot and told him to, and I quote, "Shut up moron, they're the ones going to play for a national title." I think these two guys are who they based the movie dumb and dumber on.
