I’m not a coach either but I think I’m right in saying that you all are not possibly as dense as you let on.
It seems every now and then you try, but in the end it always leaks through... you are a Vol hating ass-hole. You post something positive now and again, just to appear as though you're a fan, but in reality, you're a plant---a troll...or you just hate UT. Or then again, you might really just love the attention you get being an ass-hole.

I don’t even mind trying to run up the score. I’ve always thought it’s on the other team to stop it. But you are delusional if you see us throwing for the end zone in the final 10 seconds of a 30+ point game and conclude that we aren’t running up the score. The guy has called tight end trick passes up 40+ on a FCS team and onside kicks up big on Kent State. Simpletons such as yourself seem to believe that the key tenet of fandom is to be completely ignorant of reality at all times, while I feel like the fact I have rooted for Tennessee my entire life and got a degree from the university is enough for me to call myself a Vol fan.

Also there is no hyphen in “àsshole.”

LOL.. you're right about my spelling. I'll leave it to some others to debate you on the other points. BTW, Merklinger looked awful.

You're a p**ck, plain and simple. You contribute nothing but negativity on this board. Go troll somewhere else.

We very much tried to score, and Merk only kneed because it was a bad snap. Are you blind? Heupel absolutely runs tries to run the score up in these situations every time.
That's what I want. That's what football is to me. Score as many points as you can every game. It doesn't matter who you're playing. That is the right way and teaches our guys to never let up. Just like in life. Don't let up.

I believe you do what you can to protect players when the game is decided. Kicking a directional type school around doesn't show any form of sportsmanship. It sounds like I'm in the minority that I still believe coaches should help teach players to be men and that includes letting another man have dignity in loss. Attempting to humiliate others is a character flaw, not a trait. My values obviously are older and a bit outdated from the way a lot of you see things. If you handle business every game, you don't need style points.

There is definitely a line between running up the score and getting your 3rd and 4th stringers work. Those guys practice hard week in and week out- need the game reps- and it shouldn’t just be hand offs up the middle.

We do flirt with that line sometimes… but the blazers had their starters in the whole game. We weren’t running up anything this game.

Speaking only for myself, I'm at least as dense as I let on. Still, I know the meaning of the expression running up the score:

"Running up the score (or "piling on") is a sports strategy that occurs when a winning team continues to play in such a way as to score additional points after the outcome of the game is beyond doubt. More sportsmanlike alternatives might include pulling out most of the team's first-string players, or calling plays designed to run out the clock . . . ."

People who think we ran up the score didn't watch that IU / Illinois game.
IU was playing their 1s in the 4th qtr with a score of 49 -10...punched in 2 more TDs.
Thats running the score up.

Playing your 2s and 3s in the 4th at 49-10 is different.

He didn't "take a knee" watch again, it was a bad snap and I believe he was hoping to have time for one more play. They were trying to score, not running out the clock. Now I'm a believer that if you don't want the other team to score, stop them so I don't have a problem when teams do it to us it's not known as a gentlemen's sport.
Disrespectful trying to score on last drive?? That's why he took a knee??
Ok.
Alabama gonna Alabama, regardless of university

I disagree, I think he tries to manufacture meaningful downs for the backups to be ready rather than just handing the ball off and running the clock. They need real game experience to be ready to play. By putting in backups you give the other team a better chance to stop you while still allowing your team to get the experience they need. Don't understand how this is debatable or difficult to understand.

Throwing the ball long to the end zone with less than 10 seconds to go in a game you are winning by 30 is trying to run up the score. Kicking onside kicks up 38 is running up the score. Calling timeout with less than 10 seconds to go when you are up by 50+ to try to get a safety is running up the score. If this were the coach of any other team, nobody here would bat an eye at an accusation of running up the score. Personally I’m not bothered by it, but that’s absolutely what he does. I’d rather he not run up the score in these games when he coaches so scared in games against Georgia, but running up the score in and of itself doesn’t bother me. Just wish he didn’t lose his balls when it matters.

It’s clear that it bothers many of you though because of the outright lies many of you are spewing.

You're right. How dare anyone on here love the Vols. F me.
We should be an eyelash away from death due to our misery and be just like you. You're the only smart one here and we should be on our knees that you grace us with your superior knowledge.

Do you have to deny reality and outright lie in order to love the Vols? No, you need your head examined. I don’t think you even love the Vols. I think what you love is being offended.

I’m not the only smart one here, but make no mistake about it, anyone denying the fact that Heupel runs up the score is either too dumb or too dishonest to ever believe a word that they say.
