View from the other side: Tennessee week

The SOS argument seems to get under their skin. Some understand they have played no one to date.
Everyone pretty much bringing up our 6-1 record vs our opponent rankings. Oh well, guess that's why you play the game
Of course, that is the SEC standard answer. In their eyes, if you don't play in the SEC your schedule is trash.
You aren't wrong but our schedule is pretty trashy and we have lost to the only team we've played with a winning record. Plus, we haven't played well in these games under Clark.

We have every reason to suck this Saturday. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
To be honest I think our offensive line is going to struggle and UT will be able to win the line of scrimmage rushing four, putting TJ in a really tough spot. While our defense may hold up for a while, they will tire out and struggle late. I think UT wins by three scores, easily covering the 10 point spread.
They took notice to how the team is playing now and not the overall record.
Tennessee
Tennessee has been playing pretty well lately. Not sure this is the same Tennessee that lost to Georgia State and BYU earlier in the year.

They're up 20 on South Carolina in the 4th quarter.

ESPN currently gives us a 15.2% chance to win this game.

Here's the rest of the games:
This was by far the most complete game UT has played in the last 2 seasons. They’re young and starting to figure this stuff out. Pruitt will make sure they don’t overlook us. We’re not exactly the body bag game they thought it would be either. I expect a 60 min war
this gsme is for $$$ only ,,,the game after that are very importan t
waatching UTEP LA tech on espn 3
La tech got a wide open offense but their defense is terrible
I would disagree for 2 reasons. First our schedule has been awful so far this year and our guys have appropriately dispatched everyone except WKU. To go where we want to go games like UT mean something. Secondly if you’re between the lines and knocking heads you ain’t seeing any of that money so might as well plan on winning.

I would agree that the second half of the season starts after UT. La Tech looks like they’re going to be a handful. USM looked very pedestrian against Rice when I was watching them today.
we wont show anything at that game because winning cusa is more important for the progression of that team then beating a bunch of SEC REF
(The defense will get so many pass interference call and the offense will get some many holding call )

the goal for this year is to repeat last year goal

If we win cusa this year , i am expecting to beat anyone outside the the top 10 next year and look to be the best no P5 team and play in january

FYI RECRUITING IS ALMOST DONE FOR 2020
I have seen a few folks on Twitter who are shocked that the line is that big. Maybe they are fooled by the records (or the rankings that have us above them). I am not an SEC apologist by any means, and I certainly don’t think Tennessee is any good. But what do you think their record would be with our schedule? And vice-versa?

I would imagine they would probably be 6-1 or 7-0, and we would likely be 2-5 or 1-6.

I know we want to be an elite G-5 program that competes on the level with the P-5 schools. Last year’s team made definite strides in that direction and went toe to toe with Texas A&M (but still lost by double digits). So far this season there’s no evidence that we are on that same level.

I hope we get a lot of hurt players back on Saturday and come ready to play, and that we prove that we are taking the next step. I would love to get a win in Knoxville, but have no illusion that we are there yet.
yeah, i dont see why people would be shocked by that line.
At one point there was talk of them being 0-8 coming into this week. But in their last 3 weeks they beat Miss State (granted, not a good team), gave Alabama as big a scare as they've had all year, and beat the South Carolina team that knocked off Georgia and scared Florida in back to back weeks.

There's no reason that the line should be any closer than it is
As mentioned above, the team we play Saturday isn't the team we saw in September. They've really improved. Bad timing for us. As much as I hate to say it, with a 10.5 point line, I'd put my money on the Vols.
UTK has a lot of young talent particularly on the LOS. They were starting 2 true freshman at tackle early season. 5 star freshmen but still freshmen. Its mid season. They arent as young anymore and its starting to show in the win column and in the ability to establish a ground game and protect the Qb. They will be prepared for UAB. No sneaking in for a win. We will have to win the LOS to win this game, unless we reap a large harvest of turnovers, and I dont think we are there yet on the offensive line. But Ill be there with the family.

My oldest daughter just received her acceptance letter to the UT school of architecture on Friday, but she is a passionate UAB fan. Should be a fun game.

I laughed and couldn't help it.

Article interviewing Josh Zahn about the 2010 UAB v Tenn game.

Glad to hear he's doing ok and not sitting in a basement yelling "LACES OUT!" at the walls somewhere.
It sounds like UT got banged up pretty bad against South Carolina on my drive into work this morning. Some keys to the game will be our offensive line getting second level blocks on the linebackers and pressuring whoever plays QB. We get to the QB then I think this game becomes interesting... I will be there thoroughly enjoying the fact I only have to drive 30 minutes.
I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced and was very optimistic about the match up at the beginning of the season. However, Tennessee has steadily improved and they've got some swagger going into Saturday night. My main concern is we haven't played a team that matches up to UT's size, physicality, etc this year. The good news is we're 6-1 with a chance to repeat as CUSA champs, it's not a must win for us. I'd love to see us compete, keep it within the spread, and possibly walk out with a W. If our defense plays well, TJ makes smart passing decisions, and we establish a run game we have a shot. The margin for error as we've seen before in these types of games is slim. Regardless it's going to be a fun trip for us fans and there's going to be a great atmosphere Saturday night.

Overall, UAB didnt have much discussion on their board for UT. Most expect a loss from what I read.

After being there for the first 2 games, I dont want this one to be close at all lmao. Otherwise Ill be having flashbacks

Same here. I'll take a 1 point win, but my soul needs it to be like 65-0 in the beginning of the 4th playing walk ons.

Haha, I know that's carrying it a little far, but you know what I'm saying.

I've never met a UAB fan I didn't like and respect.

I've also never met a UAB fan so.......

All joking aside it should be a good game that is well played on both sides. I like the Vols to cover easily but I expect to see a well coached and inspired UAB team on the field.

Yes. After the last 3 years... I think we all need a "cleansing" where the Vols score north of 50 with offensive TD's.

Yeah, I’ve seen us screw around and let these lesser conference teams hang around too often over the years. I would feel much less stress if UT comes out strong and buries UAB early.

Hopefully Chandler and Jordan take over this game and let the QBs and Defense have an easy day.

I'm glad to see UAB doing well as a program and hope they continue to thrive (except on Saturday). I can't help but root for them. That video of their players finding out that they were cancelling their football program gets me emotional every time and I can't help but hope they all found some success elsewhere.

That being said, I hope we beat them so bad they re-cancel the program :)
