This strategy of a lineman on the PAT team going down has been a staple of Hype's team for the last several years. It gives the defense more time to recover when the Offense scores quickly.I understand the defensive players being gassed and going down. Still seems like too many. Doesn’t explain what’s been happening on extra points
Sold out but assume third party sites gobbled them up. Lots of open seats. It was crazy how many great seats were empty on the Syracuse side. I knew we would be the extreme majority, but I’m not sure they had a thousand fans there. Total attendance couldn’t have been more than 50,000.
This guys not watched a Tennessee game in a long time.-Tennessee pash rush generated 5 sacks and TO's. we couldn't generate any pressure. and i was a bit surprised to see the Vols offense still playing fast and snapping up by 2 scores in the 4th. instead the trailing team is using all the clock and calling timeouts to avoid delay of game calls. weird.
-Would anyone have Fran on the hot seat after this game? It could be getting warm.
-Tennessee very well may be the 6th or 7th toughest game on the schedule at the end of the year.
Actually, I thought Syracuse played better than I expected. Will be interesting to see how they do the rest of the season. TN could have scored many more points if they wanted to, that's to the naysayers. Although I would have liked to see our 2/3 QBs get some play time think it was important for Joey to give a full game under his belt. I would expect to see the 2s & 3s to get play time next week.I very much enjoy the losing teams thoughts after a game. Some are very objective. Some are very idiotic but it’s why college football is what it is.
I do appreciate the compliments when and where they are tho
I don't think it was sold out. There were tickets available from TM* as of late Friday night (probably about 200 from my estimation).Sold out but assume third party sites gobbled them up. Lots of open seats.
Many in the lower level 35-50 yard line enjoyed the club level lounges. I purchased club level on the 50 - unlimited food and drinks. It was well worth it and incredible environment, and though we were on Cuse’s side. We had an incredible time!
They scored less points in the 2nd half, we didn't go vanilla between injuries and youth on the field last night we did fine.I would say most of the Syracuse fans I ran into were great, I think we got way to vanilla in second half, never thought we would lose but I will say I was very suprised we gave up 20+points. Their RB will do fine against lesser opponents, QB was fine, defense is brutal.
International: Commentators accuse Syracuse player of heinous act in Tennessee lossMeanwhile, Syracuse is making national headlines by faking injuries.
I thought that was interesting and it feels like a sentiment many on here are kind of sharing (at least with them outplaying us in the second half). We went from up 17 at half to winning by 19. Feels like it was pretty much a wash. I do think they had more yards than us in the second half, but who cares.
One thing that bothered me is that the tempo seemed to get us a couple times. Calls weren't coming in fast enough and some guys were having jssue getting lined up.2nd half defense:
Yeah...our defense was missing BOTH starting Corners (Gibson missed 2.5 quarters) we played freshmen in the 2nd half. At Nickel, Boo (backup to McMurray)got in the 2nd half and gave up 2 fourth down conversions. At LB...not only did freshman Harmon play...2 walkon LBs played at the same time for an entire drive. We had 4 different DTackles go out in a game where we were already missing starter Hobbs. We had to move Dom Bailey inside from SDE to play Tackle.
So...we played backups EVERYWHERE on defense in the 2nd half. Even 3rd string and walkons...and we STILL stretched the lead from 17 points to 19 points. These are the actual facts from the game. Our defense will be just fine. Are they gonna be 7th best in the nation again? Probably not. They will still be a top 20 unit though IMO. GO VOLS
I'd love to see what they have to say after their game today.-Would anyone have Fran on the hot seat after this game? It could be getting warm.
-If this defense can be even mediocre at best, this could be a really good team. But I’m not sure that’ll happen with Robinson as the DC.
-It's hard to evaluate our team through a critical lens after playing Tennessee. I think Angeli showed a lot of poise. Yasin is a beast. Tennessee's pass rush was scary. Our team has a lot of heart.
-Was not a fan of this game the second it was announced. Tenn home game, they are a really really bad matchup with a young team.
-Huepal or whatever his name is had an answer to pretty much everything. In fact, I found that qb very average but in that scheme he should be serviceable. He ran circles around E Rob.
-Kids played well. Team is only going to get better. Hope Fran plays this year based solely on winning conference games. Tennessee is good enough to beat everyone they play. Very physical. Great OL.
-If we are as bad talent wise as we are calling plays on defense then the best approach to be either sell out to stop or run or pass. Pick one to try to shut down. Tennessee can’t have over 240 yards on both rushing and passing.
-Forget this one, Better outcomes are soon to come. Tennessee is good.
-They're going to hype Aguilar after this one but I don't see it.
-Tennessee very well may be the 6th or 7th toughest game on the schedule at the end of the year.
-Overwhelming atmosphere. Definitely got to us. The moment we kicked off and forgot to get the tee off the field it felt like we were somewhere we shouldn’t be. Fran and the coordinators looked unprepared for the moment.
-It felt like Tennessee could score whenever they wanted. Their offense was bigger and stronger than us. Defense will be fine but they aren’t ready to play cfb playoff teams.
-Tennessee pash rush generated 5 sacks and TO's. we couldn't generate any pressure. and i was a bit surprised to see the Vols offense still playing fast and snapping up by 2 scores in the 4th. instead the trailing team is using all the clock and calling timeouts to avoid delay of game calls. weird.
-Impossible to know what we actually have, that Tennessee defense was supposed to be elite we could have easily scored over 30, our tackling is still an issue, there are probably 10 or more top 25 teams we would have rather faced then Tennessee in Atlanta. We will know a little more in 4 weeks.
-8 win team? Maybe 5 at best.. guys need to take your franchise goggles off. There isn’t a good “coach” on the defensive side of the ball, including Fran. Great recruiters bad coaches.
-We walked out of the stadium 90 minutes ago and are still stuck in apocalyptic Tennessee Orange gridlock in Downtown ATL.
-Tennessee’s offense is probably better than we think. The Vols lost a lot from last year, but they’ve reloaded with a lot of talent. We need to improve tackling and our pass rush, but I’m not ready to push the panic button.
-We essentially outplayed Tennessee in the second half. One more stop, one more play on offense, and it would have got interesting.
-Not sure how many of those Tennessee players were actually hurt. I’ve never seen so many players go down on one team in one game.
-Part of the problem was Tenn secondary was hold on almost every play. The one I remember the most was Ross Simon was out of bounds on the throw. On replay you could see the defender was holding him under his shoulder pad with no call. Only pi calls we got is when an SU wr was tackled before the ball arrived.
