What other message boards are saying (Syracuse Edition)

True, but this is technically a road game too..Just a neutral site one. All I'm saying is I've seen this movie before. Our fans talk so much $hit, then get our asses beat. I highly doubt this game is even close, but we've got our own issues too. We definitely aren't in a position yet to overlook anybody yet.
Two thirds of the crowd will be Vol fans. It will be like a home game.

I see this being a 28-17 type game. Control the ball with run game, take what the defense gives in the passing game, play solid defense. If we can't run the ball against then it's going to be an extremely long year. But I think we probably have 170+ rushing yards on them.
If we only score 28 and only beat them 28-17 then we are not gonna have a good season.

-Tennessee fans feel entitled to excellence and think it's obscene if they're not perennially top 10. They melt down when they're mediocre (oh boo hoo us) or try to hire a meathead a former Rutgers coach (well they did get that one right).

-Just another SEC school w/big ambitions, an oversized stadium and idolatrous zealots all over that burnt Orange Rocky Top.

-Tennessee as a team does not scare me the same as Clemson or Notre Dame. I think we play them close. Likely get down early but claw back.

-The problem I see is getting a fair shake down in Atlanta. We've already seen the disrespect that can happen when ACC teams (especially ones from NY) travel down to SEC country.

-I'm hoping that Fran Brown has already changed that dynamic. He's made it clear we are not some punching bag and is very smart with his words when it comes to officiating. Personally I can't stomach any ghost flags on critical plays in the 4th quarter which tends to happen.

-We have two quarterbacks and at least one highly-rated receiver with something to prove. If we can burn someone on a fly pattern in the first series, I can see us winning this game.

-Tennessee is deep on DL but with Pearce Jr moving on their pass rush takes a hit. Their WR room was leaned out a bit with Squirrel White transferring, Bru McCoy retiring as well as Thornton leaving. Nico leaving in exchange for Aguilar is a downgrade IMHO as Aguilar is turnover prone and has struggled in camp throwing INTs.

-Avoid mistakes, and Cuse will have it a 4Q game. The thing is, very very hard to do that with first start QB and game number 1 on the road.

-I don't have that much faith in our defense, to be honest. I think we are going to have to score in the 30s to win, and maybe to even cover.

-Buncha hicks in Knoxville. I took an official visit there as they were recruiting me hard to play golf there. I’ve never heard the word “Yankee” so many times in my life. Cool school and campus sure, but they are kinda like WV people. Very very very strange.

-I'll sign up for 5 TOs! The deranged Vols fan might think those are 5 mistakes. But I'll feel pretty good about our defense if they force UT into 5 killer mistakes.

-If it's treated as a normal cross conference game, the visiting team's conference would supply the refs. See the screwjob in '98.
We are not like WV people...was there today. That place is unlike any other.

I’d call it technically a neutral site game because that stadium is going to be dominated by Vol fans lol. I’d guess 70-30 in our favor, minimum. That’s being generous. I’m also not a person to write off Vol opponents, but I am just not seeing it with Syracuse. I think the Vols have so much more depth and will dominate them on both lines of scrimmage, especially our DL vs their OL. If we can’t even beat them, I’d definitely say 6-6 is on the table.

I’ll also say that ESPN analytics currently gives us an 88.6% chance to win, highest odds of any Power 4 opponent we play this year. It’s kind of a meaningless metric before games are played (if it has any meaning at all), but I definitely buy that number right now.

To get called “yankee” to your face is a curse word. Someone either considers you a friend or you’ve pissed them off when they start throwing around “yankee”. There’s not much in between.

Either that person was really cool or everyone thought he was a pain in the ass.
Or he's never actually been to the South and just made it up. Which is typically the case when I hear these kinds of criticisms from northerners. Some of these people still think it's 1852 in the South.

Actually had a boss at my last company (based in Detroit, but I was remote) who was talking about going to Austin and said he was shocked that there weren't people walking around in cowboy hats. He seriously thought it was going to look like some Western set in 1878 or something.

Do they have more than one message board?

For sure...they were a bottom 3rd defense last year and gave up 6.18 yards per play which is bottom 25ish teams in all of college football and they really didn't add much of note in the transfer portal. I just cannot see them being able to stop our run consistently.
In the ACC, they were ranked 82nd out of 134 teams in allowing rushing yards per game. They gave up an average 161 yards per game.
