they talking a lot of smack. but even in that they throw in a lot of qualifiers. only one real break down of the team.
Aren't we also? They are fans and allowed to do that. Look at all the smack people on here talked about Ohio St last year before our asses got ran out of the shoe. Fans talking is just that, talk.

A good friend at work was burned and raised in Michigan and moved here when he was about 30. Only time I have ever called him a yankee is when he was talking **** about me in jest. Lol

The old saying, a yankee comes and goes back. A damn yankee stays. There is a difference. Lol

Seriously doubt that happened to that dude. I don’t speak for everyone but I don’t hear people call people Yankees from the north unless we are talking **** for fun.

We will run for 300+ yards on their defense. The difference between us scoring in the 30s to possibly hanging half a hundred on them will be in how many explosive plays we can connect on in the passing game IMO.

Our defense will hold them under 21 points regardless. We could score 24 points and win this game. I dont think their defense can hold us to 24 though. Our Oline is better than the one that led the SEC in rushing last year. Our RB room is absolutely LOADED this year. We will run the ball well. We are also LOADED at TE this year. Kitselman is a beast and all 3 guys behind him are very good as well. Our TEs will help JA find some success in the passing game even if our very young WR corps has a slow start to the season.

Cant wait for ball. GO VOLS WGWTFA

Don’t really know what to expect being it’s the first game especially from our offense. We will win but this could be a tougher game than many fans are expecting our defense should control their offense. Their fans should be confident they won 10 games last season and have a good coach but i would be shocked if they beat us. Gonna be a long season if we lose.
I suspect JH will play it conservative because of what you said w our offense. Play stout D, prioritize the run, don’t turn the ball over, and we walk away w a win, regardless of how close the score is.

A lot of things have to go wrong for Heupel to only win 7 games this year. I think the schedule sets up nicely for UT to possibly go 9-3 or reach 10 if we win one out of UF, UGA, or bama. I would take our roster over the majority of the opponents we face honestly. It helps to get MS State on the road and OU/ARKY at home.
It’s all about the qb. If we get better play than LY in SEC play (not a huge reach) we can be in that 9 win range. OK and UF will be better also, and throw in Bama and UGA, so our qb needs to be able to distribute the ball efficiently and effectively to be in the same hunt we were last year.

Talent and coaching win FB games. Both teams are well coached.
Syracuse recruiting over the past four years.
2025 44th
2024 37th
2023 88th
2022 68th

Hat on hat, our guys are better. I expect this to be close until it ain't.

Unfortunately that doesn't always decide things. We were way better than Arkansas! Just saying..

People that don’t watch the ACC regularly don’t realize how different the talent levels are from SEC and top tier Big10. The ACC big guys are smaller and the fast guys are slower. Obviously, there are exceptions and bowl games try to create interesting matchups but the overall talent just isn’t the same.

Maybe I’ll eat my words, but I am utterly indifferent and uninterested towards Syracuse and put their chances of beating us at close to 0. We would have to play an absolutely horrific game to even be in jeopardy of losing. I think they’re one of the many middling ACC teams that you could put in a hat and shuffle around for us to play and beat up on to open the season, just like NC State last year or Virginia the year before. If it was Georgia Tech, Miami, Clemson, Louisville, or even Duke/UNC, that’d be a different story. But every college football podcast I’ve listened to sees them as a team fighting for bowl eligibility in 2025.

True. However, Arkansas has better players than Syracuse and it was a road game.

True, but this is technically a road game too..Just a neutral site one. All I'm saying is I've seen this movie before. Our fans talk so much $hit, then get our asses beat. I highly doubt this game is even close, but we've got our own issues too. We definitely aren't in a position yet to overlook anybody yet.

Yeah...a LOT of VOL fans forget that Nico only threw for 5TDs in the 7SEC games besides Vandy. FIVE touchdowns in SEVEN SEC games. He did light Vandy up for 4 passing TDs. Cant take that away from him...but averaging less than 1 TD per game vs a relatively weak SEC schedule is really bad. If he had just hit HALF the wide open WRs streaking down the field for TDs, we beat ARK and blow out Bama for example.

I am sure JA will make some mistakes and throw a handful of INTs this year...but he will also pass for more TDs and yards than Nico did last year IMO. A good bit more in my opinion.

.
A lot of people are saying that Heupel will be conservative in the first game, but I don't think he has done that in the past first games.
