Talent and coaching win FB games. Both teams are well coached.
Syracuse recruiting over the past four years.
2025 44th
2024 37th
2023 88th
2022 68th

Hat on hat, our guys are better. I expect this to be close until it ain't.
I just looked that up myself before reading this post. Talent wise they would be dead last if they were in the SEC. Maybe 4 or 5 total 4 stars on the team. Considering what they lost from last year also, they would need a lot to go right for them to win this game.

The golf recruit trying to “flex” is hilarious.

Interesting how one of them has magical insights into Aguillar’s performance in practice since we have seen virtually nothing from him in person due to practices being largely closed.

I have no idea if we will best them, but the notion that Knoxville or Tennessee in somehow stranger than the garbage that I see in New York every day (I have the misfortune of being stationed there at the moment) is laughable.

There is literally nothing in Syracuse, NY that is relevant or interests me.

I have lived in Central NY (suburb of Syracuse) for 14 years now, I grew up in SC and never heard anybody call anyone Yankees in 32 years, on the flip side 80 percent of the people I work with and many who are Die Hard Cuse fans can’t wait to move to the south when they retire lol, and I have never experienced anything but kindness or at worst maybe some ball busting. I for one plan on retiring and spending half the year someplace in the south, love the fall up here. As for the game we roll in the second half!

Exactly

A lot of people from that part of the country, and in Hollywood claim southerners are closed minded bigots, yet ironically they are the ones who paint all southerners in the same stereotypical way. And most have never spent more than a day in the South
Also funny to me that so many from up North and also California are bailing as quickly as they can and moving down South. It would seem to me given what they think that they wouldn’t want to live anywhere near us hillbillies and rednecks.

As far as the comments go, it’s awfully big talk from a team that isn’t exactly loaded. They are about to find out what the big leagues look like.

3-0 vs Cuse just saying

-Tennessee as a team does not scare me the same as Clemson or Notre Dame. I think we play them close.

Preseason #4/6 in Clemson & ND, they should be scared but they need to be scared of every ranked team they play.

Odds are they have someone that whines about their own posters on their board just like you. Crying about crying.

These boards are all the same.
This, folks act like this is the only board with crying. I have been to all of them, fans are the same everywhere. Some positive, some more reserved and some never happy. It’s the same everywhere. Even the top teams have fans that gripe about something. As far as this first game against Syracuse if we focus and cone out ready to take care of business we will be fine. I fully expect us to be ready to go, no excuse not to be. GBO

Vol fans, don’t let the orange tinted glasses let thoughts of a beat down fool you. Yes it’s possible but getting beat is also possible.
My scenario is CJH relying on his defense and running game. Not attempting quick scores. New QB, OL, and unproven receivers makes me think this could be a repeat of Ok from last season. If Cuse struggles moving the ball, he will play it close to the vest.
Vegas is Vegas for a reason.

Syracuse did win 10 games last year. Defense was not so great and their running game wasn’t too good. Was their passing attack so good they out scored people or did the defense bend but not beak giving up tons of yards from 20 to 20

I don't necessarily disagree with your primary point here. Personally, I think CJH will look to take a downfield shot or two early in the game and then call the rest of the game based off how successful we are and how well our OL is holding up in pass protection. Also, Vegas has us as a 14 point favorite, so I'm not totally sure what you are referring to there.

I believe they brought in a transfer QB last year and he transformed their offense…he’s gone now and I don’t think the replacement has taken a snap…

update: Angeli is a junior who has attempted 80 passes over the last two season for about 700 yards

They mostly outscored people in their wins and they had a pretty easy schedule. Their best three wins were 42-38 @Miami, 31-28 @Ga Tech(early season), and 52-35 over Wash. St. in their bowl game. They also lost @Stanford, home against Boston College and were destroyed at home by Pitt. For sake of comparison, they beat NC State at home by 7.

Does Syracuse get to ten wins last year with our schedule? I’ll hang up and listen.
Nope. Even though our schedule was pretty light for SEC standards, my guess is they would have been boat raced by Georgia, Bama and probably Florida. I also think they would have likely lost @Oklahoma and @Arky. The best defense they faced last year was probably Pitt and they held them to 13 points. That Pitt defense gave up:
24 to Kent St
27 to Cincinnati
34 to WV
24 to UNC
48 to SMU
24 to Virginia
37 to Louisville
34 to Boston College
48 to Toledo(bowl)

-Tennessee fans feel entitled to excellence and think it's obscene if they're not perennially top 10. They melt down when they're mediocre (oh boo hoo us) or try to hire a meathead a former Rutgers coach (well they did get that one right).

-Just another SEC school w/big ambitions, an oversized stadium and idolatrous zealots all over that burnt Orange Rocky Top.

-Tennessee as a team does not scare me the same as Clemson or Notre Dame. I think we play them close. Likely get down early but claw back.

-The problem I see is getting a fair shake down in Atlanta. We've already seen the disrespect that can happen when ACC teams (especially ones from NY) travel down to SEC country.

-I'm hoping that Fran Brown has already changed that dynamic. He's made it clear we are not some punching bag and is very smart with his words when it comes to officiating. Personally I can't stomach any ghost flags on critical plays in the 4th quarter which tends to happen.

-We have two quarterbacks and at least one highly-rated receiver with something to prove. If we can burn someone on a fly pattern in the first series, I can see us winning this game.

-Tennessee is deep on DL but with Pearce Jr moving on their pass rush takes a hit. Their WR room was leaned out a bit with Squirrel White transferring, Bru McCoy retiring as well as Thornton leaving. Nico leaving in exchange for Aguilar is a downgrade IMHO as Aguilar is turnover prone and has struggled in camp throwing INTs.

-Avoid mistakes, and Cuse will have it a 4Q game. The thing is, very very hard to do that with first start QB and game number 1 on the road.

-I don't have that much faith in our defense, to be honest. I think we are going to have to score in the 30s to win, and maybe to even cover.

-Buncha hicks in Knoxville. I took an official visit there as they were recruiting me hard to play golf there. I’ve never heard the word “Yankee” so many times in my life. Cool school and campus sure, but they are kinda like WV people. Very very very strange.

-I'll sign up for 5 TOs! The deranged Vols fan might think those are 5 mistakes. But I'll feel pretty good about our defense if they force UT into 5 killer mistakes.

-If it's treated as a normal cross conference game, the visiting team's conference would supply the refs. See the screwjob in '98.
Here we go!!! My favorite posts and time of year begins!!

^^^ THIS IS SO HILARIOUS.

I remember in 98 our VOLS were sweating like whores in church up in that Carrier Dome. Now I know why hahahahaha
Our son was in the P.O.T.S. Band on that trip, wearing the wool uniform. He said the game was an exciting win but the Carrier Dome was a miserable sweat-box.
