Unfortunately, the season comes to a close tomorrow. It has been fun this year watching the Vols grow. Lets WTFA tomorrow and get onto the 2022 season.

UT fans mingling with the enemy, but Purdue fans have been respectful that I have seen.
Feels a lot like a Tennessee cover to me. Purdue being down two first round draft picks just feels like a hurdle that the Boilermakers don't have the ability to jump over.

I really think a good bit of Tennessee's defensive issues the latter portion of the season were due to fatigue and body blows of playing in the SEC. A month off is going to be huge for that side of the ball... Especially when facing a one dimensional offense. Tennessee's defensive line can play vertical and the eyes of the back 7 won't be tested all that much either.

Tennessee's offense is what it is, and that's not a bad thing. I don't see Purdue holding us under 30.

Bell and Karlaftis would have been able to make enough plays to keep it close, maybe even win it. Without them I just dont see the firepower necessary to win or cover.
They think Bell and Karlaftis would win the game for them though
Seeing as how Vegas still has the spread under a touchdown, I'd suggest the experts would expect a pretty close game without Bell and Karlaftis playing. With Bell and Karlaftis, Purdue likely wins this game.

No offense to rocky top logic. But I'd leave the predictions to the experts...
What metric is this guy using?
Purdue played a more difficult schedule than Tennessee in nearly every metric I looked at, and some didn't have the two particularly close. But sure, blame the "body blows" of a tough schedule as to why Tennessee sucks
I have never had ill will towards the Vols. I still remember Spurrier giving them grief, especially when he said that you cannot spell Citrus without UT.

A notable difference between this Music City Bowl and our last outing is that Auburn severely underperformed that season after being ranked highly in the initial polling. I dont see that with Tennessee.

My way too early, undereducated prediction is Boilers 34 Vols 28. O'Connell has only gotten better as the season progressed. This game will ride on him keeping the Tennessee offense off the field.
Little dig at the big boys in the SEC
I actually like Tennessee. I have family from Tennessee and I grew up liking them. I also don’t mind watching SEC if I watch any football and don’t care about their academics. It doesn’t matter in sports. Big schools that let academics slide don’t get punished anyways so you can’t say it matters. That said, I like that Purdue plays by the rules and are still able to put a good product on the field and court. Should be a good game.
Did they really compare their defense to UGA's, Bamas, etc?
Ok now apply that same logic to the Vol no huddle offense against the SEC defenses dealing with fatigue and body blows. Now substitute a well rested Purdue defense.
This guy......
Wisconsin being unranked was a joke. As you can see, they are now. Nebraska has lost numerous games by one possession against ranked teams. Purdue's schedule was ranked 12th in the nation. Tennessee was ranked 23rd because of the cupcakes they played. Tennessee lost to Bama, Georgia, and Ole Miss. Who cares how good they were. You still lost. By a lot. And you were blown out by an unranked Florida team...

Georgia got exposed by Alabama. And Tennessee only scored 17 on them. Ohio State would have put up 30+ against Georgia. It'll be interesting to see what happens vs Michigan..
Not all of us scoreboard watch. I see Purdue having a problem with Tennessee’s offense. Ohio State was the only real good offense the boilermakers played all year, and they got completely dominated - damn near as bad as the Auburn bowl game. I just hope Purdue’s offense can perform like it did the second half of the season. With Purdue missing key receivers it’s gonna be tough. Vols 41, Boilers 31
Theres a lot of posters thinking Purdues SOS is "amazing"
If anyone seems to have a “little-brother mentality” on here it’s you. You seem to have a large need for validation. Purdue has by far better wins this season than Tennessee does. We’ve also played a more difficult schedule overall too. Tennessee played no one close to Notre Dame or Oregon State in non-conference. We played against one of the toughest overall strength of schedules in Division 1 CFB.
I thought tenn would beat Purdue and that Purdue would have been better off going to the pin stripe bowl or taking Minnesota’s spot and playing West Virginia or having an interesting matchup against Louisville or Kentucky! With Covid, player portal transfers and star players opting out taking away players from teams, The results of Bowl games are basically worthless. Those who lose can always make up excuses for their losses. I’m confident many Purdue fans are already saying if only we had bell, kg, and Wright, we’d win. They are already making up excuses for losing. That’s like saying the election was rigged before it ever happened! And people believe the lies that they are told! Tennessee has an awesome offense. They have also given up a lot of points. If Purdue wants to play SEC teams in Bowl games, they need to start playing them in the preseason! I expect Tennessee to win big. And I fully expect to see 10,000 posts from Purdue fans making up excuses for the loss. Great teams have depth to make up for player losses! I still remember OSU’s third string QB leading them to a championship. And I remember Joe Montana leading ND to comeback victory over Purdue.

speaking of frauds how’s the mighty SEC doing in these bowl games? That’s why everyone has said to gtfoh with your SEC pumping. The SEC is perceived as good because they get the media coverage, which leads to more exposure for recruiting. If it weren’t for ESPN the SEC would be just another conference. And as we’re seeing they’re nothing special so far. Give us Karlaftis and Bell and we beat you by 10+. To bad we won’t get to see it. But I’m still not counting out a very short handed at this point Purdue

Cant wait for the game. Hope UT blows them out of the water and sends them home in tears.

Just the ACC champs with a Heisman attendee at QB.

I'm not sure some of them have even seen UT play. I seem to remember something similar concerning Iowa a few years back.

The biggest difference in "speed" between the SEC and Big 10 isn't the skill players. The Big 10 recruits nationally and regionally to find guys who can run.... at least 1 deep. The bigger difference is the speed and athleticism it takes to play on the LOS in the SEC AND then the depth of speed at the skill positions.

Purdue hasn't played a tempo team this year. Even very good coaches have commented that you really cannot prepare for it. Was it UGA that used two complete offenses rotating in practice to simulate UT's tempo?

I have always like Brohm. I wanted him at UT. I believe he's a really good coach. I don't have anything against Purdue. I have a Purdue engineer working for me now. But... I can really see this going like Mizzou if UT plays well.

One key however will be pressuring the statue they have at QB. They pass block well. They allowed 27 which doesn't sound great until you realize they had the highest pass attempts in the Big 10- 528. For reference, UT had 334 attempts and allowed 42 sacks. They were better at protecting their QB than Bama. UT cannot allow him to stand in the pocket all day.

I do appreciate a fan base that knows how to fan. You know, actually think well of your own team and talk up its chances. Even at a bit of cost to common sense. No such thing as irrational fandom if you're arguing in favor of your own.

So, hats off to them for getting that part right.

We're still gonna whup dey butts soundly.

Go Vols!

p.s. Thanks for these threads all year, Rock!

I visited their board a bit, didnt post... they are mostly respectful to and complementary of UT. A few of them though... are in for a really rude awakening tomorrow.

WITH their best players, it was probably a toss up... I could've seen it either way. WITHOUT several of their best players, it is going to be a bloodbath.

Always the self-gratifying B1G 10 put down of the academics in the SEC and South versus their conference. Fact is, according to US News rankings, Vanderbilt, Texas, Florida and Georgia all rank higher academically than Purdue. Purdue is tied at #49 and Tennessee is in about a ten way tie at #103. They're ranked higher than us, but with all the schools being ranked, not enough to go bragging about.

Don't entirely get it...we're missing our top cornerback, best offensive lineman, top running back, and I guess our most experienced linebacker is still out. You line up and play. Your excuses are your own.

Bingo. It’s like the excuses that some are making for Leach getting blown out by Texas Tech.

I like when they talk about keeping our offense off the field, as if the offense didn't score 38 points in 14 minutes against Kentucky.
We are gonna keep our own offense of the field by scoring touchdowns and kicking off every 3 to 4 minutes.

GBO!

Perdue thinks they have 2 first round draft picks? Don’t think so.

Both are really talented players. George Karlaftis the DE is going to go in the top half of the 1st Round. David Bell depending on how his combine speed is will be a late 1st Round or early 2nd Round pick. That being said, I think we would still beat them if both were playing. Football is a team game and we will hopefully be the better team tomorrow.
