Obviously I'm a bit late on this, as several threads have already been posted on VN about their message boards. But I figured I would wait until game week to post.
It wasn't easy to find much discussion about the game, but I certainly saw a lot more confidence than what the media thinks. They respect Dobbs/Hurd/Kamara, but they respect their own defense more. Without further ado, here's what the Northwestern faithful are saying about Saturday's matchup in a bowl they have no business playing in:
--------------------------------------------------------------
-Their lack of message board discussion really does reach comical levels. Here's the first 5 posts of a thread started by Vol fans to discuss the game:
a few more posts from that thread I thought were funny:
-There is a thread discussing our beat-up session against Iowa last year, but it seems to be mostly talk of how much Iowa has improved, and essentially we only beat them because they were a terrible team last year.
-There is a question from a UT fan on their boards asking what it would mean to their program to win this game. The responses were.... confident..... is the best word I can use to describe them.
-This was great. An Iowa fan posted on their board wishing them luck against us, saying for them to give us and the SEC a "black eye." This was a visiting Vol fans response:
-This was already covered in a separate thread regarding their message board chatter, but they have a thread about Tennessee fans. Basically saying we are whiney, we stick up for our criminal players if they are "good players", most of us didn't attend UT, we always blame the refs, etc etc.
-This tells you where they are in recruiting:
-They are upset about getting the Outback instead of Citrus. They believe they deserve it over Michigan, but they seen to be making themselves feel better by saying Northwestern "Still gets a big stage, but a much weaker opponent."
-They started a thread during Bowling Green's bowl game, saying "Tennessee's best win is playing." Apparently a 10-2 Bowling Green team is a better win than a Top 25 Georgia team. But let's be honest, they're Big 10. They refuse to believe strength of schedule is an actual concept.
-They believe Tennessee will get a "dose of reality" and a "lesson in big boy football" at the line of scrimmage.
-I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to interpret this:
-They call us "Voles"
-Uh oh, look out everyone:
-Can someone confirm this? Surely this is an exaggeration.
-This is what we call "reaching":
I've honestly never done one of these threads where I was able to pull such gems of quotes. Almost makes me wish we played them every year, although I prefer to play against teams the world actually cares about.
9-4 and a potential Top 10 ranking going in to 2016 are within our grasp. Let's pack out Tampa and get loud!!
Also, side note here: Thank you all for your support on these threads all year long. I enjoy doing them and they seem very well received. Obviously this will be the last one until we see what Appy State fans are saying, then it's The Battle of Bristol Edition! Until next year, friends.
