What Other Message Boards Are Saying: Oklahoma Edition

The hyperbole you read on the OU boards, especially Landthieves, is in noway indicative of how the overall fan base feels about this game. We know this is going to be a very difficult assignment. We are worried about certain weak areas our team showed in week one and we have tremendous respect for the Vols.

Really couldn't see myself going to landthieves, or any board where you have to wade through penis jokes, sarcasm, drunk posts, idiot posters who think their whole stable of running backs is likely NFL bound, other idiot posters who complain about not being allowed to get blind drunk and act like complete ass-holes and ruin the whole game experience for everyone around them because it treads on their constitutional right to be a blind drunk ass-hole and ruin the whole game experience for everyone around them and so on.

Wait....

I'm glad Internet memes weren't such a big thing in 96 as they are now. This could have been me after the Memphis game, lol.
You and me both. I was 16 that year and am not afraid to admit that I cried like a baby when we lost that game. I almost did after the 2001 SEC Championship game but got blind drunk instead.

I was 14 and just KNEW we were going to get a shot at the NC.

2001 I had to work that night or would have been hammered for sure.

We understand that the vast majority of Sooners are classy. My buddy raved to me over how kind and classy Okie fans were last year. He said even the drunk ones were humble in victory lol. Every fanbase has it's loudmouths

Yeah that 96 Memphis game was like a bad dream. Add to it that I was born and raised in Memphis and that's all that was on the news for weeks after the fact.

Have they created a thread laughing at us for having a thread about rushing the field?

It was about the most drunk I've ever gotten. I hammered Jim Beam to the point of pukeing and got a hangover that lasted nearly 3 days.

That's because this year they see us as a threat, not an annoyance and its making them defensive.

Florida fans have been especially salty about UT recently as well, presumably for the same reason. They're disguising their fear of a probable loss with disrespect and overconfidence.

I would say Soonerillustrated, the Scout board, is more comparable to Vol Nation. One thing that is different about Sooner fans that may or may not come across to you guys is the general apathy towards anything extraneous to the team and the game. In other words, they simply do not understand the whole SEC thing.By the same token they don't understand the whole Neyland thing. This fan base at its very core is all about OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL and pretty much anything outside the lines is superflous. I think it goes back to the way the program became so storied and it's connection to the way the sate felt about itself after the depression and the Dust Bowl. Sooner fans could give a rats ass about how well other teams in the Big 12 do, with the exception of Texas and they want the Horns to do poorly every time they take the field.

Another thing about OU fans....they want all visitors to leave Norman with a good feeling. They pride themselves in how well the visitors are treated.

That's funny, because we don't think of our pride in Neyland Stadium, the Vol Navy, Saluting the Hill, the geography and traditions and history and fan base of our program as outside the lines of the game of TENNESSEE FOOTBALL at all. They are part and parcel of one whole.

As for love of our SEC brothers, or hate for them, that's a very mixed bag in Volunteer country. There are plenty who feel much as you do. The hate for Bama and Florida is always thick enough to cut with a knife. But for some, the pride in being part of a group of universities and programs with such rich tradition and such a winning tradition, well, that's worth celebrating, too. I'm sorry for you guys in Oklahoma that you don't have anything like that. I'd blame Texas, the bastards. ;)

First, If I have offended any member of the Vol Nation in any way, I apologize. I lived in Nashville up until last August for about 6 years and have quietly followed the Volnation forum and registered on this site when the series between UT-OU was finalized. OU fans can be the worst or the best, depending on who you deal with. Many, like myself (and I will take the opportunity to say owenfieldreams) are probably the older generation of OU fans. Many don't understand, nor care really, about what it took to get OU to it's position in the world of NCAA football. They only know the "now" and don't hold to tradition and ways of OU football. I coached and taught back home and Okie's tend to hold on to the sport of football, probably like many in TN do. I saw too many school districts and small towns fold and dry up. Many had great football teams and that was about the only thing that held the communities together, even when industry and the economy was long gone and bust. When it comes to OU football, that is about the only thing we have left to center on, rally around and hope for some more glory. I can remember my mother crying when it was announced on the radio (yes, radio) that Steve Owens had won the Heisman in '69. I admire, and so do many other OU fans, the traditions, pagentry and the hoopla that surround UT football games. I cringe at times when I read some of the assinine statements that come out of the mouth of many OU fans. But alas, it is what it is. So far, we have been able to meet home/home in womens B-Ball, now football and hopefully in the future can schedule some other sports between UT and OU. Here's to some ass-kicking on both sides, nobody gets hurt other than the ususal stuff that goes with hard fought games and to a great season for both.

OU seems to think they have this one in bag already. No respect. I hope our players take notice to that!

Yeah, but that is fans. The same could be said if OU fans visited this board during the offseason.

If you asked the OU players if they will win they would say yes.

If you asked the UT players if they will win they would say yes.

How did Oklahoma fans view the Nebraska rivalry? 'twas a shame to see the demise of one of the greatest rivalries in all of college football when Nebraska jumped ship to the Big Ten.

Aside from what other Sooner fans have stated, I think a lot of the fan base is still bitter about last year. We were supposed to be title contenders, but poor QB play and our secondary turning into swiss cheese made the end of the year almost unbearable. You should have seen how many of these bozos were calling for Stoops to be fired. We are a spoiled fan base for sure. Plus, our two biggest rivals wear orange, so you'll catch some of that hatred as well by default.
