And you get absolutely no credit playing FCS teams or bottom ranked teams. I don't like these games never going to like them. Just no value in playing them.Right now, you get no credit for playing good teams with the way the playoff is set up (see Indiana, Penn State, and SMU making it last year)....
If a school’s entire schedule was somehow FCS or FCS level FBS teams and they began the year ranked highly, they probably make the playoffs anyway just because they were undefeated as long as they looked good doing it (probably need expanded playoffs to be 100% sure of it, but it could happen). Beating lower ranked teams just matters more in football with fewer games; losses crush you.And you get absolutely no credit playing FCS teams or bottom ranked teams. Agreed. Hope you and your son have fun at Rocky Top!I'll be honest, there's not much, but I will always make sure we have this up.
-We get $575,000 for this game, just remember that.
-Don't forget the real season starts on September 13th with West Georgia.
-Probably around a 56-10 loss.
-Would guess that tempo would not work in our favor this game. Going 3-out and giving them the ball back in 40 seconds is probably a bad idea. Taking my son down for this first experience at Neyland. It's something he'll never forget. Looking forward to it.
-Believe it or not, a 56-10 loss would be an improvement on both sides of the scoreboard compared to our last visit in 2018 (59-3).
-Realistically, it’ll probably get ugly early. But what I want to see is our defense fly around and not be intimidated. If we force a turnover or score once on offense, that’s a memory these guys will never forget.
-Our O-line is going to have its hands full. If we can just run for positive yards early and not go three-and-out every series, I’ll call it a win.
-Biggest stage most of our guys will EVER play on. Just hope they soak it in and don’t get shell-shocked when that place gets loud.
-This isn’t about the score. It’s about staying healthy for SoCon play. Tennessee’s got athletes we just don’t see week-to-week. I’d be shocked if it isn’t 35–0 by halftime.
-Best case scenario: we hang around for a quarter, maybe force a punt or get a field goal, then reality sets in. Worst case? They name their score. Either way, it’s a paycheck game.
-Yeah, this one’s going to be rough. But hey, our guys get to experience SEC speed up close. That’ll pay off when we’re back in conference play.
-Let’s be real, we’re walking into a buzzsaw. Our depth just isn’t anywhere close to theirs. If we can get out of there without half the roster in the training room, I’ll call that a win.
There's always risk regardless of the opponent. Tillman goes down against Akron. Michigan loss to App State. You're kidding yourself you don't believe opponent quality doesn't matter. You get a home game instead of a neutral sight or a home and away or a 2 for 1. That is a huge benefit. There is a big risk in playing a quality opponent - losing, injuries, not getting to see the younger guys in real game action. And there is no upside, rankings don't factor in quality on the schedule like they should.
We specifically need to work on passing out to the flats. That's where he struggled some. Plus it wouldn't be unnecessarily running up the score on a weaker opponent. It's a win-winYep, stay/get healthy for UGA, get 2's/3's their reps, and tighten up the passing game a bit...WR drops and a few high passes from JA.
If memory serves me correctly the Zips played dirty.Agreed. Always an opportunity for an injury like Jabari Small and Cedric Tillman against Akron in 2022.View attachment 770107
