Here's our player participation for Syracuse. Those snaps are meaningful. You don't get meaningful snaps against FCS teams imho.

1. Jacolby Criswell -- a mobile QB who was a starter at UNC
2. Cade McNamara -- who beat out Joe Milton at Michigan

I agree with you BUT you almost need some throw away games to get people healthy and to get some young players experience as well.

Namely David Sanders for this game. Even though they are FCS, I think he needs a decent amount of live game reps to prepare for Georgia, particularly to gel a little with the starting group IMO.

I hate playing FCS teams, just don't see any value in it. Certainly doesn't prepare you for SEC play.

Before someone says it, no, I don't care if help pay for their program.

This game is for reps and rest, nothing more. The backups get invaluable practice time in a live game @ Neyland environment. For UT it's rest the starters after the first half, and build depth through game experience. Nothing better than live ball practice with the outcome a foregone conclusion.

After watching part of the Carolina game last night, I say we can accomplish what you're saying without playing FCS teams. There are 136 FBS teams, schedule no team ranked below 70.

While I agree with not playing “tune-up” games against lower division schools anymore, I am fine with playing an in-state FCS school every couple of years. Some of those kids are from Tennessee. Let them come see what it feels like to play in one of…if not THE…greatest CFB stadiums in the world.

Yes, keep the money in-state. Our youngest daughter lives in Jonesborough, which is about a 10 minute drive to Johnson City. Johnson City is a really nice, beautiful little city, which you could say about almost all of East Tennessee cities/towns.

Morristown doesn't qualify.

I've been a Vol fan since I was a kid. But, I graduated from ETSU. I also worked for ETSU for several years. Last day was Friday. I started a new job today, at UT. So I want the best for both schools. I hope UT gets a good tune up before UGA and ETSU gets some $ for their program. Mostly I just don't want injuries on either side.

This is quite interesting that guys can play for multiple schools and have such long college careers. Joey vs. Cade is quite a qb matchup with a 24 year old against a 25 year old. Etsu is coached by Will Healy and they will give Tennessee a legitimate contest for an FCS opponent. Definitely hope both squads have injury free games.

If he had any eligibility left Chris Weinke would likely still be playing in the current era.
