What Other Message Boards Are Saying: Appy State Edition

For some reason I remember an office in one of the county buildings that still had "State of Franklin" on the door.

You know we're probably all related, right?

Yep. But I've always wondered ... if you get divorced, is she still your cousin?

All kidding aside, there is more that unites most of both fan bases than there is that divides us. I will definitely be watching some UT football as the season progresses.

How do you know coach White?

I've seen lots of respect for App St on VN over the past several weeks. You just seem to be a bit over-sensitive. Take a couple of Pamprin and chillax a little.

OC our whole country is becoming hyper-sensitive, it is becoming increasingly difficult to express ones opinion without someone else becoming sensitive to said opinion and in turn terminig you.

In many ways, App State IS long lost family for UT. Long ago (1780's) in a world not so very far away, North Carolina ceded to congress its most western land to help pay for debts run up in the war for American independence. The newly formed State of Franklin stretched from the Appalachian mountains to the Mississippi river though the effective western edge was just beyond the current town of Knoxville. Franklin was actually supposed to become the 14th state.

IIRC, Greeneville was the capital. There's still a State of Franklin road in Johnson City.

Eventually, the ill-fated State of Franklin was absorbed into Tennessee rather than remaining part of North Carolina. White's Fort (now Knoxville) was on the western edge of the State of Franklin.

Enough family history! Let's play football!

Actually Jonesborough was the first capital.

The head waters of the Tennessee River run close to Boone too I believe.

The Little Tennessee River starts in N Ga, runs through Franklin, NC then into Fontana Lake before running along the sw boundary of the GSMNP toward the Tennessee.

People used to be very connected by waterways.

Pretty correct there SJT, the headwaters of the Watauga river start very near Boone and this is one of the many rivers that sends its waters through downtown Knoxville.

App State is dumping ex-lax in it as we speak. But it'll backfire... Just more incentive for our D to get off the field.

Sounds about right, I think the analysis by their reasonable fans is spot on. I expect App State to play us tough in the first half and eventually get worn down in the 3rd giving way to a respectable 14-21 point defeat. The backups will likely play the last 2 or 3 possessions if I had to guess. App is a solid fundamental football team, if we want to jump on them early we are going to have to execute well.

His baby sister married my baby brother. The marriage didn't last but our families still keep in touch. His older son is a dentist in Asheville. They're good folks.

Ummmm. I'll just say that I really like his wife. I haven't seen their kids since they were little. My career moved me away years ago.

You're an alright guy 82, just wanted to say you have represented yourself and your fan base extremely well on here. You are welcome here any time (not that I have a say anyway haha). That being said, I'm thinking 45-20 Vols my friend. Good luck to y'all and hope y'all have a good, injury-free season.

Bottom line: if Tennessee is a championship caliber team this should be an easy W.

bottom line....what so called championship team beat every other team they faced with a beat down?

just wondering.

how many so called championship teams have never had a close game?
