This is good stuff! Thanks for the summary.
We did lose the bulk of our receiving corps to graduation. That wasn't as crucial last year since we were more run happy than in previous years. We do have one exceptional receiver in Shaedon Meadors who returns this year. He's made some incredible catches. He was injured most of last year, so we didn't get to see as much of him as we would have liked.
We've also had Tyson Fernandez switch from the D-line to the O-line this year and have had several positions shuffled in the O-line hoping for the right mix there. Our O-line last year was a key to the running attack. I'll be interested to see how well the shuffled O-line works against an exceptional Vol D-line.
Marcus Cox leads what was a strong running attack last year. He's a senior this year and will be backed up by Jalin Moore and Terrence Upshaw who were both solid contributors last year.
We're likely to have several freshmen starting on Thursday. One I'm particularly interested to see is DB Clifton Duck. Reports out of camp indicate he's been exceptional which is good news with Latrell Gibbs ineligibility.
I was at a booster club gathering on Friday. Of course, there was much talk of the upcoming game. I had to laugh when our AD said he was just about tired of hearing Rocky Top blaring through the speakers in the stadium. It sounds like our coaches have done what they can to get the guys ready for Neyland's less than friendly confines.
See you in Knoxville!
Thanks OP. I haven't been on VN all summer but since it's game week I figured you would have this thread up. So I had to come back and check it out. It's my favorite thread on VN and you do a great job with it. I also like the girls of thread but I haven't gotten to that one yet.
What I cannot figure out about Appy State:
Why a school located in Boone, NC has a tradition of their band playing the Tennessee Waltz.
MTSU doing it? Makes sense. UTC? OK. Even Vandy or Memphis? If they wanted to, why not? But unless or until Tennessee annexes Boone, I just don't get it.

Go back to the State of Franklin post. The history of western NC and eastern TN is closely woven to say the very least. Boone is nearly at the Tennessee line, too. We have much more in common with eastern TN than we do with most of NC.
The Tennessee Waltz is a pretty sad song come to think about it. That makes me wonder why any college band would play it.
Guess us rural southern folk are always longing for a simpler time ... kinda like that last verse of Rocky Top says ...
Now let's play football!
I've been over on their board Yosef's Cabin and have had some discussion with their posters. All of them were welcoming and level headed. I definitely would like to see App State win against Miami now.

Absolutely true west of Asheville as well.
From the home towns of Bryson, Shuler, Pickens, and Streater... Knoxville is about a 2 hour drive. It is a 5+ hour drive to Chapel Hill and a little further to Raleigh.
PS- I'm probably one of the few people you'd meet anywhere that knew anything about the State of Franklin.
