What other message boards are saying (Akron Edition) (Plus Pitt Postgame)

They have a decent team, but anyone that could watch that game and think Tennessee was better than Pitt, or vice versa is fooling themselves. We are both decent teams, not great

I thought we did look like the far better team, minus all the mistakes: turnovers, dropped passes, penalties, etc. Think we would've won pretty easily if we cleaned that up. But that's a big "if".

Slovis nor Patti want to see that defense anymore........

Tennessee might be the best team Pitt plays this year....Pitt isnt close to the best team Tennessee will play

Eat it Pitt
Especially Slovis. Guess they think he just took himself off the field. That man wasn't making it through a full game taking the hits he took. Hell Patti damn near didnt make it through the half.

Their D played well. UT's D played well. Neither O was great. They won the ST's battle.

.... and yet UT found a way to win. That's what good teams do. It is one of the dividing points between a well-coached, well-led team and one that is not.

This is the type of game we have spent years finding ways to lose. It's incredibly encouraging to see us find a way to win a matchup like this, on the road, against a top 25 team. I'm hoping this win will be looked back upon as a turning point for us. Clean up some of the miscues and sloppy play and we can absolutely get to 10 wins.

That's the most aggressive I've seen UT play in the front 7 in a very long time. Not sure about the whole D but I have high hopes that was a breakthrough game for Baron. Not big stats but he pushed the pocket.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying. I was ready to jump out a window by the time we muffed the punt.

It’s not like Slovis just opted out of playing the second half…he took a beating in the first half because that weak Tennessee defense beat the great Pitt OL on just about every play. Instead of Pitt fans saying “if Slovis had played the whole game” they should be saying “if we could block at least as well as a Sunbelt team“

It’s not like Slovis got turf toe or aggravated a nagging injury. He got pounded on the the Volunteer defense over and over and over again.

If UT misses a wide open receiver for a TD, fumbles and plays way too soft inside the 20 (like they did in OT), UF will win by 14 points.

In all the years we lost to UF, going for field goals was the primary reason. You must score TDs inside the twenty, play disciplined football (ie. jamming the WR at the line to disrupt) and blitz the QB from various positions on nearly every down.

If we don't muff that punt, Tenn wins by 17. All the Mo and would have scored every possession after that. HOOKER plays like he is supposed to in the First two series, it ain't even close. Tennessee's DEFENSE Manhandled Pitt. You saw their QB didn't return for the second Half. Their RB had one good one, then Tenn shut that down. Pitt played their best, Tennessee not even close; and still won. THAT is a fair assessment. WATCH Pitt LOSE @ Wmich this week!!!
I think you are being overly dramatic ... Pitt will either play their 3rd string QB or 2nd string QB with a bum ankle (depending on the severity of his ankle injury) and they will still beat Western Michigan. [Western Michigan beat Ball State 37-30 this past weekend] Look for Pitt to dominate them like Vols did.
I am assuming the Slovis (reportedly suffering from a concussion) is going to be out for at least this weekend.

PITT postgame comes from panther-lair
-I was not impressed after all that bark from Tennessee. They might win the Sunbelt, I guess...

-Wasn't impressed with Hooker.

1. If Tenn is that medicore, he must really think his team sucks.

2. Imagine throwing for 325 yards and no turnovers and someone tells you that.

Tennessee got screwed in the Pitt game last year. It should have been back to back wins. Pitt is not as good as Tennessee. Had Hooker started last years game the game would have been a blow out win for the Vols.
Delusional post. Congratulations on the win but Pitt could have very easily won the game Saturday. Left 20 points on the field and played most of second half with a backup QB on one leg.

Um.....we won.
THey as in the Tennessee football team. Not Akron. I should've been clearer. Akron feels like they should've won because WE let them keep it too close.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm quite clear which team actually won. lol

In 2021 we literally turned it over on downs in the red zone with like 4 minutes left. Got a stop, then were driving until the game ending interception. Tennessee had every chance to win that one in the fourth quarter alone without bringing up our stupidity in the second and third and how we squandered points there.

This year one could argue tennessee left 20 points on the field too. Too many dropped balls and miscues that bit us. So Pitt left 20, we left 20. We still win.

Difference in 2021: Kenny Pickett
Difference in 2022: UT's DL living in your backfield

Agree with this assessment. My delusional post comment was in response to poster who commented that Tennessee should have blown Pitt out last year. I think the separation between these two teams is minimal. Enjoyed both games and will be coming down to Knoxville 10/15 and rooting for the Vols to beat Alabama. We always take a road-trip during Pitt’s bye week and enjoyed Knoxville so much last year that we are coming down again in a few weeks. Good luck the rest of the season.

All that matters is the score at the end of the game. The formula looks something like this:

Final Score = (Points Earned * 1) + (Points Left on the Field * 0)

The game was a grind and each team had its share of mistakes. Tennessee’s defense delivered in OT and made up for some of the offensive blunders.

Spot on. In all honesty the Pitt fans I was around were good natured and classy. You know that had to hurt. They were gracious and complimentary. I don't expect that in Athens in a couple of months.

Yup, I would love to play this home and away more often. Two great games, and a lot of fun along the way.

-If Pitt had a field goal kicker, they win before overtime. With the second string QB in for the second half.

And if Tillman catches that ball in the end zone, the game is over a lot earlier than overtime.

You can go on forever with asinine "if this or that" comments, and they mean less than zero.
