What on Earth Do You All Want??????

The last 3 Tennessee head coaches where head coaches prior. All a joke. The last two Georgia coaches where coordinators. Did well. Clemson's was a position coach. Doing well. Oklahoma's was a coordinator. And so was Stoops. The most successful coach in UT history was a coordinator and Neyland was a promoted assistant. Mississippi State did well with a coordinator. Majors was a sitting head coach with a National Title....and he was a joke. I will bet LSU will be fine and they promoted a position coach. Texas hired a non power 5 head coach. Auburn hired essentially an assistant with one year head coaching at a non Power 5 program. Arkansas hired a power 5 head coach. How did that work? Florida State promoted a coordinator and won a National Title.

Why on Earth does Tennessee fans think they have to have some big time....or should have....sitting Power 5 coach? And if they don't they are not interested in winning and going cheap. Butch was a top 20 paid coach in America. Tennessee is not a top 20 football program.

What I want is winning the east ever three-ish years. Winning the SEC champ every 6-8 years. Playing in a bowl every year and winning most of the time. Good special teams, a decent offensive line and not many penalties in the backfield/secondary.

"what on earth do you all want???"

apparently it doesn't matter. some folks will never be happy. worse than that, some folks who have know genuine basis for their opinions still spout off as if they are experts.

Just because desmond howard and jessie palmer get to do that doesn't mean it makes sense for everyone to try.

Wow, another thread complaining about people expressing their opinions on a message board. 2 in one day, nice.

wait until the pruit and tucker interviews are over today and a hundred more "insiders" tweet about which one of them being a "strong candidate".

An experienced coach that can win now - not one that needs to spend the next 3 to 5 years of on the job training to win. If we get an OJT HC - we are at this same point again in 3 to 4 years - maybe sooner.

Only if you hire the wrong one.

Maybe we can get Mike Riley, Bret Bielema, Gary Andersen, Jim, McElwain, Butch Jones, Jim Mora, or Todd Graham?

All of these guys are available. All of these guys were successful enough head coaches at one stop to be hired away by historically good to great programs. How did that work out?

It doesn't matter who you hire if you hire the right guy. He will be successful. If you hire the wrong guy, he won't be.

Gene Stallings was fired from every head coaching job he ever had until Alabama hired him. He averaged 10 wins per season and won a NC.

Agreed!!! Every great head college head coach started out being a coordinator or position coach. GBO

I want to know that Chris Petersen said no to a contract worth up to $9 million a season.

At least then I would know that we were somewhat serious about hiring the best.

I want everyone from the admin to the Athletic department to all the fans to accept we are: an average, middle of the road SEC football team. We will be lucky to win an East title once every ten years, and we are an average 8-9 win team. Why, because this is reality, because history supports it, and because facts support it.

Wish it were not so, we are the best and most insane fanbase in the country, but, we are exactly what is posted above.

Our stadium, facilities, tradition and HISTORY say otherwise. Plus the money the football program generates on a yearly basis. Plus Knoxville being a Top 5 viewer in sports in the country. We can WANT and EXPECT as a fan base, greatness. Do NOT let these 10 years tell you, me or anyone else that we are a middle of the pack SEC program. Have we lately? YES! But i'll be darn to accept middle of the pack! Always strive for greatness!

It's the millennial crowd. Stupid, arrogant and entitled.

What's your generation? Blame-passers? Gimme a break. It's all generations who want to win and see our admin putting in the most pathetic half assed effort. That's who it is.

Don't forget who raised those millenials you're constantly wanting to blame.

People want a guarantee or as close to one as they can get.

There are no guarantees.

Everyone is always more likely to hire a Butch or Mac than a Saban or Meyer

The problem is hiring 3 Butch's in a row and the same people who made those hires are having input on this search as well.

And it certainly doesn't look like Fulmer is doing anything to improve the situation.

Absolute great point. No way to know, which is why I have thought we should hire one of our own (Tee) and give it a shot. Florida hired Mullen, who had ties to the program. IMO we do not know what we are getting in a Head Coach with any of the Coordinators we are looking at, so why not get someone who has ties and a passion for this program.

An experienced coach is not promised to win now. Saban did not win immediately at Bama, and was an experienced HC. And inherited a dumpter fire of hte same magnitude of UT currently. Had their own circus like ours. DuBose, Franchione, Price, Shula. Price never even made it to a coached game. They were a laughing stock. Saban had a mediocre first year. Improved 2nd year. Been on top since year 3. Smart is a Coordinator. Never been a HC. He's an OJT HC. Year 2 has been very, very good to him. The coaching search is not an entitlment program for us. Let's not be snowflakes.

What do they want? Fulmer has 36 years as experience as a coach. His record as head coach is 152-52, pretty impressive. What these guys want is acknowledgment that they are somehow more qualified than Fulmer to make that decision. You know, most have been loyal fans since they were 12, so they each have 5 years experience watching football. Add in the X-BOX experience and Fulmer hasn’t a chance.
