Seriously. This is the worst case scenario. Whether or not Schiano deserved to be blackballed, many will take his side and we look like we jumped on a hearsay allegation to keep away a mediocre coach. It was a horrible choice to begin with, just based on coaching alone. Mediocre resume with no evidence that he could recruit in the SEC. Now we are stuck with taking whatever we can scrape up. No matter how good of a hire we make, UT and the hire will look desperate. My opinion, hire Kiffin quick. He will win here or at Miss St. Up to us. Sumlin and Miles are possibilities now. Make a choice and call it a win. I don't think there is anyway Frost comes here as a second choice. Anyway, lets see which way the fumes from this steaming pile go as the day progresses.

Fortunately, since Currie opened the door to include child molesters as part of the qualifications, he has greatly expanded the potential list of candidates.

It's all part of his shrewd plan.

Throw too much money at Frost first. When he says no, work down a reasonable list of Venables, Norvell, etc

Your idea is probably close to what will take place. The job comes with impossible expectations and is a guaranteed early termination. UT will have to pay someone enough to justify wrecking a career. In other words, beggars can't be choosers.

Tennessee will hire on the cheap like they always do. I doubt Currie has swung for the fences once in this search and if it's true were interviewing Tee or Brohm, he won't. Just another vicious cycle in the AD. Our passionate fanbase deserves more but will never get it.

I couldn't help but think of this dialogue from Pulp Fiction when i read the title to this thread..

Butch: You okay?
Marsellus: Naw man. I'm pretty f...in' far from okay.
Butch: What now?
Marsellus: What now? Let me tell you what now. I'ma call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' ******s, who'll go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. You hear me talkin', hillbilly boy? I ain't through with you by a damn sight. I'ma get medieval on your ass.
Butch: I meant what now between me and you?
Marsellus: Oh, that what now. I tell you what now between me and you. There is no me and you. Not no more.

Hope the language isn't too far over the line for Vol Nation

First we should never mention the name Gruden again when it comes to coaching searches. While the majority knew he wasn't coming, the ones that kept spreading fake rumors made us look like idiots. On almost every twitter thread someone is making fun of us over Gruden.

I will say that if there is a positive out of all this besides the fact that Vol fandom has brought the spotlight on something that many in State College would like to keep hidden, is the fact that even a Kiffin hire sounds pretty dang good to many of us.

Seriously, who could Currie possibly choose now that isn't a better option than Schiano. Any coach that's worried about the fanbase here should understand he's very likely to be welcomed with open arms after this fiasco.

edit to protect the Aggies....8^)

Wow so thee are impossible expectations here. That is the most ignorant thing posted on this site. Hey mister uninformed, Florida fired a coach who went to the SEC championship game two years in a row. Now they are on the verge of hiring Mullens. TN gave Butch five years to prove what most people new after two-three years. He wasn't capable.

Although I could personally get behind Kiffin, there's a huge segment of our fan base that would react very negatively across social media, etc. We're in this deplorable situation in 2017 because of the dumpster fire left by Kiffin after 2009. Besides, I seriously doubt Currie or the boosters would consider it. I don't envision any reputable, available, sought-after coaches from the outside (Campbell, Norvell, Brohm, Leach, Sumlin etc) accepting the UT job after what happened yesterday. Our best hope after Sunday's debacle is to get someone with current or previous ties to the school such as Cutcliffe or Martin, but not Kiffin.

We proved yesterday that Tennessee has the most passionate fans in the nation. We are the 2nd richest program in the country and we have a losing record. Just think what we can be when we start competing for championships. With that being said, we need a coach that has brass balls. Like the article said, every play, every word will be scrutinized. If the coach can handle the scrutiny and is a good coach, he will get rich and be elevated to legendary status. This job ain't for sissies...

If you are Currie you either have to throw money at a proven winner or you have to hire a coach with no head coaching experience. That is really your only two options at this point.
