We learned JGs experience shows up in comparison to 2 qbs that have never taken a snap. We learned JG would now have 5 ints already if defenses could catch. We learned JTS is extremely erratic with his passes. We learned BM has wheels. So in other words..... we didn’t learn anything we didn’t already know. What’s interesting is the FEELING of validation of what CJP has been saying all along.

Pump the breaks.

Maybe we learned that JTS is more than likely a serviceable backup at the college level but even at that I’m not sold he can’t get better. He hasn’t had much of an opportunity and we can’t expect him to be on point his first time out. That’s unfair when our own starting QB was anything but his first time out.

BMs situation is a little more interesting imo. He was the most accurate in the spring game at 70% while they called an up tempo/ pass heavy game plan for him. I find it funny to see the exact opposite in his first game out. Instead of up tempo they went conservative. Instead of pass heavy they kept him on the ground. They called a TOTAL of 3 pass plays for him while having him run a style of offense he’s NEVER ran before. And this is evidence he’s not as good as JG? Out of 3 pass plays called only 2 were thrown. 1 incomplete pass and 1 drop. Don’t forget JG hit a defender in the chest with his first pass. So I don’t call this validation. I call it highway robbery if that was his audition.

Some people make a lot out of 9-13 with 2 interceptions in a spring game.

Not saying he is or will be bad.......just saying all we have seen is a spring game and this one........it literally is what it is.......and it ain’t great so far.

Interesting takes... we sure do have an issue at QB and that seemingly is with this team for the rest of the year.

Ima tell you a secret. All of our QBs are liquid garbage in the SEC. I don’t think it is a secret based on how people and the games react to JG here though.

You may be right. At the moment. But can anyone honestly tell me or anyone else for that matter that they wouldn’t trade (at best) 2 more wins this season for a qb that’s SEC ready and capable for next season? Can anyone promise that any win JG pulls out this year beyond this point couldn’t have been accomplished with BM? Can anyone guarantee that BM wouldn’t lead us to more wins as soon as THIS year?

Because yes... I would trade 2 wins this year for a real SEC QB that’s ready and able next year.
No. I couldn’t say that any wins JG pulls off this year couldn’t have been accomplished with BM.
And I wouldn’t guarantee that JG leads us to more wins than BM could right now. He’s a major contributor to losses to GAST and BYU. Any one of our freshman could’ve played just like that so Why would I expect things to be different against UF, UGA or Bama?

We learned that JG can hit wide open receivers against bad teams... but we already knew that.

We learned that Shrout has the confidence to make quick decisions and get the ball out but needs a lot more PT to get the physical execution right... plus he needs to put some touch on the ball.

We didn't learn anything at all about Maurer. They didn't give him enough pass opportunities for us to see anything.

JG will not enter the NFL draft; Hill will be eligible next year; and HB will arrive. I certainly would not be surprised if both JTS and BM transfer at the end of the season.

After JG goes through the SEC meatgrinder this year he will declare for the NFL. He gone

So how did HB look this past weekend when his team was overmatched? I heard he threw 4 ints? Keep believing he’s better than BM but let me remind you BMs team was overmatched every week.

There probably isn't one on the current roster.

I've said it before...I think there's a reason they took a chance with Hill. I really think JG might move on after this year. A change might benefit all involved. That would leave us needing someone with some real D1 game experience.

Taking Hill makes me think the coaches feel much the same way or they just don't have the confidence in either of our backups. While the hotshot in this years class might be the second coming, he might not be ready to take control of the offense. I really think we'll see another grad transfer QB added before next year. Given our OL play, I really hope he's got wheels.

To bad JTS and BM have not been allowed to throw a football during
practice.

I don’t really think we saw enough of either back up QB to make an educated decision on how good or bad they might be.

I will admit that if you take away the first pass, JG looked respectable.

I agree....but
against an SEC team that first pass is INT and UT & JG are on their heels. Chaney is afraid to throw a pass vs SEC D in this scenario. After that 1st ill fated throw look back at play selection that series all runs after that. vs UTC. This tells me at that point Chaney still had doubt. News flash we can not line up and run every play vs SEC teams,

my take away JTS should have been put in last year some (<4 games) for experience.
BM should get some more time this year (<4 games) to prepare him for next year being backup or whatever
JG may have to take the rest of the snaps until we have no choice. They would like him to come back for a real QB competition vs going transfer portal.
They are still not 100 % sure HB is still coming & who knows he may not be as good as advertised.
