As of right now, there are going to be 71 very upset fans following SEC play. No chance in hell that Butch is going 6-2 in SEC play.

I chose 8-4 with a bowl win because that was a lot of peoples' "realistic" expectation going into this season. Preserves another top-15-ish recruiting class and saves us a little more money. Then if we fall flat again next season we go ahead and pull the trigger.

If Butch coaches the rest of the year like he coached that 2013 Georgia game, being aggressive, and the beats the breaks off every team they play including giving Alabama all they can handle. If they do that they should finish 10-2 which would mean a New Years Six Bowl and possibly even a trip to Atlanta.

If I had to hire a coach that would develop talent I'd go with Chad Morris, David Cutcliffe, Brent Venebles, Memphis's Mike Norvell, or even Stanford OC Mike Bloomgren (The team would have a dominant running game and physical OL, a pro style QB).

Beating Georgia would make it cool until we were to lose another winnable game (USCe, Kentucky, etc). Replacement would be Brent Venables. Easy.

Beat UGA, which for some reason think we will do and then SC, and don't lose to KY or Vandy or lesser teams. 9-3 cools the seat. 8-4 prob means we won one we weren't supposed to and lost one we weren't supposed to and keeps the conversation going. 7-5 keeps the job but phone calls are being made. 6-6 currie has a decision to make.

I agree with the stipulation that he must beat Vandy, another loss to Vandy this year and the search committee starts calling agents.

we see teams all the time who are punching above their weight because of the strength of their coaching staff. They come in with prepared players and have an attack plan designed to counter the strength of their opposition. Appalachian State playing us last year was a prime example. Those kids had no business being on the field with us based on Talent levels. However based on coaching ability, they were ready to throw fist with us for four quarters. I need to see the Butch Jones can coach our kids to punch above their weight.
Losing to Alabama would be acceptable. I'm sick of losing to them, but hey, they have more talent and are better coached. LSU is a must win due to the Florida loss. We lost to a team we should have beat now we need to beat a team we should lose too. As far as I'm concerned he needs to win out the rest of the season with the exception of possibly Alabama.

For once I'd like to see Butch finally beat the hell outta someone that matters. Like take GA or an LSU to the woodshed. 37-7 or 31-10. Stop playing up and down to his competition. Stop letting things come down to a damn Hail Mary.

If you have the horses, then run away with them for once.

To me its this simple:

If Vanderbilt or Kentucky or South Carolina who have had their coaches for less time than Butch, lower levels of recruiting than Butch, and lower expectations than Butch, and yet play in the same conference, finish higher than we do, he needs to be gone.

I'll be okay with first in the east. Less than happy with second in East, pissed at 3rd in East, but if any of those teams do better than us, that's unforgivable.

nothing....bob stoops, brent venables, gruden.....end of conversation

Lol let's just throw Jim Tressel in the mix since we're talking about people who will never coach again.

Seriously - why is NO ONE mentioning Chip MFIN Kelly?? The dude KILLED IT at Oregon running a spread. Tennessee is loaded with talent just ready for a coach with his head not up his own you know what to WIN.

Playing like a well coached team. If we line up and play heads up football, and just lose to a better team, I'm ok with that. Maybe the next class will fill the holes we have, you know, "Brick by Brick".

But when you have multiple receivers running routes to the exact same spot on the field all game long, you have receivers breaking in, when the QB is throwing outside, missed assignments, inconsistent play, too many offsides penalties, too many blown coverages.... Play after play, week after week... The next thing I expect to hear is talks about "Shower Discipline"...

Finishing 6-2 in the SEC with with wins over UGA and LSU would mean that we finish the season 10-2 and win the SEC East....in my way of thinking.

:salute:

Look, BJ is a great construction worker......I mean really good; however this building is complete.......and he is NOT a building manager.

I know all of the injuries and everything; however last year loosing to SC and Vandy.........COME ON. Tennessee had no business loosing to anyone not named Bama last year.

Butch is a solid coach if you want 8 to 9 wins every year. We should not want that, and he has proven time and time again that is what we get with him (we will always lose some we should not, and rarely win some we should not). Butch should have us beating most of the ranked teams now.........and we are FAR from that. Now we hang our hats on (2 to 3 cup cakes, KY, MO, ad sometimes Vandy and SC (SOMETIMES). No one should agree that is good enough.......NO ONE.
