Is the way the players quit yesterday. I don't care what Hamilton said at the start of the week, the players should always play hard. These kids are getting every bit of their education paid for, for playing basketball. They should have more self pride in knowing they are getting a free education, by just playing basketball. Hell, i wouldn't mind going out there and making a complete ass of myself, acting lazy and like i don't care, so i could get a free ride. With that performance yesterday, i would seriously consider yanking some free rides away from some players.

they owed it to themselves to put forth a better effort and not anyone else.

Exactly, at least have some respect and self pride to play better, and at least respect the game of basketball.

“Certainly when the kids find out there may be a chance you might not be back, and you hear that for the first time, it gets you,” Pearl said. “I know it’s on Mike’s heart, too. And he’s apologized for saying that. But don’t put the loss on that.”

I normally do what I can to keep up with those first round games we're in, but they're usually during work hours...and it's not football, so usually won't waste any vacation on it. This year...pulled up the score, turned it off...I knew going in we'd lose this one....even before dum...ss Hammie threw out his one liner. Didn't watch the game, didn't hear the game....and not the least surprized by the outcome.

Free ride or not, these guys have worked hard all year (hard, not smart) and tried to maintain focus. Months of this uncertainty and then the AD being an idiot the WEEK OF THE NCAA TOURNIE did them in. They weren't that good consistently, and throw in the fact that your coach most likely is gone...too much for them. I may be old, but I can also remember what it was like when I was 18 to 22 years old...and sometimes no matter how hard you try...when you have deep down given up...you can't overcome it. Add in the mixture that you've got a bunch of mediocre players out there...you get what you got.

From what I hear...the 2nd half was nothing but ugly...living a couple of hours from Charlotte...gave fleeting thought to going...but looking at $100 tix, taking time off, and having a gut feeling it would be one and done...why waste the time and money.

I like Pearl. I hate this situation. I can't stand Hammie...never have...long before Fulmer troubles, Raleigh hiring and Kiffie. Hammie is nothing but a money manager, and, although there have been great upgrades to our facilities, has done more harm than good for men's athletics at UT. I still support Bruce (but not as much as the first of the year, and will not be surprized if he's here, or if he's gone...we'll see). I have no support for Hamilton...he created his own monster, and it's eating him.

Bottom line for me...if Pearl goes...he HAS to go. If Pearl stays...I would prefer for Hammie to go anyway...but we'll see.

Still don't understand why we couldn't RECRUIT (not try to get a local walkon) somebody that can hit a freekin outside shot.

What a freekin year it's been.

"I will give my all for Tennessee today" is by far the most important to me. More so than wins. When that doesn't happen my pride takes a big hit.

No leadership on this team. They have shown that they aren't mentally tough enough to overcome adversity as Pearl's teams in the past.

This team has played this way all year long, with the exception of a couple of games. Not sure why anyone is surprised in what they saw. A perfect ending to a disastrous season.

Yea. They shouldn't have. They're scholarship players. Blah blah blah. If it was me out there it would feel like I had been kicked in the nuts. All of the players came to Tennessee to play for Bruce Pearl, hearing that he is gone on the way up to Charlotte? Come on. Sure, some of you feel like you could have had fight in you, but the reality is that these are kids, and it crushed them. What do you do?

How about pulling Hammie and Pearl's free rides. They are the ones who put all these distractions up there for the kids to deal with.

That's the reason I find a new coach. Ever since Bruce started being able to get better athletes, he hasn't been able to motivate them.

He also moved away from his bread and butter of the full court press as well. He can't coach a half-court game to save his life.

The whole situation bothers me. Hammy's presser, Pearls lying, the kids quiting etc. I'm just glad the season is over.

Last year, after the Tyler Smith fiasco, Bruce was able to motivate kids who never played. That's his modus operandi. He can make "meh" kids look like world-beaters. See: Dane Bradshaw's steal against Florida. Nobody on our current team makes that steal. His motivation tactics, however, don't seem to translate to players who could see themselves getting drafted
