What makes a successful rushing day?

What yardage do you consider to be a good rushing performance in Athens

If there is a number you are looking for its how many 2nd and 3rd and longs we have throughout the day.

If we re in a lot of 2nd and 3rd obvious passing downs its gonna be a long day.

Obviously if we rush for 50 yards its prolly not going to be enough but the balance is key moreso than the total. You re not gonna be successful Sat against that defense without both run and pass being at least working well together.

Obviously we don’t want a lot of 2nd and 10s but last week that was our best running down and distances. We ran 6 times on 2nd and 10 for an average of 10 yards a carry

a good running game and good OL will keep the Georgia offense off the field which will be a big help,
as BruinVol said it helps to be successful on the ground to set up the pass - let hope JG comes through

Hopefully they get it going and it’ll set JG up for no pressure easy throws

This quote got me thinking
As I saw some of the responses.

There is no denying Georgia has what many think is an elite defense and many also think we have an elite OL.

So with that said let’s see what everyone thinks is a successful game on the ground in Athens.
The gameplan for UGA is going to be stacking the box and leaving receivers 1v1 against DBs, IMO. They're going to dare JG to beat them with his arm and not let UT manhandle them up front like Missouri did. If JG and the receivers can loosen them up by taking and completing the deep ball for chunk plays, then it can allow Gray and Chandler to get 4-5 yards a rush and UTs O will be in business. If not, it will be a long game. I think over 150 would be a good day rushing with this OL against UGAs D.

Different approach here, but how about wearing the corners and safties down with slants, screens, so they are too tired to help in run support?

Sure but we better keep that pass rush slowed with some off schedule runs or they will get to JG too often
Don't disagree there.

At some point JG is gonna to have to hit some throws that keep them in check. They go hand in hand. Chaney is gonna give him opportunities on non obvious downs.

Anything over 150 and I believe we'll have a chance to win.
Agree. A total of 150 yds @ 4 ypc is 38 plays. If UT is moving the sticks and can get around 40 rushes and 20 passes... chances for a win improve significantly.

Team with the most rushing yards will win I think.
UT needs more from JG. He has to throw over the top and hit plays to keep UGA from crowding the LOS. He's going to have to hit some of the quick throws to prevent them from reading run first.

On the other side, UT has to contain Bennett but collapse the pocket. So far, he's been clean and had open throwing windows. I don't think you want him running around and throwing. That appears to actually help him see the field. He's quick so I think you use controlled blitzes where the first thing is cutting off escape lanes. I think you have to make him try to play like he's 6'3" instead of 5'10".

I want to run more offensive plays than they do and win time of possession. Say it's 3 yards and a cloud of dust 50 times, and we throw it maybe 20 times, just enough to keep them from stacking the box consistently. If that means we keep the ball 40 minutes, I'll take it. So yeah, maybe 150ish.

It’s about red zone conversions for me. You can run all over the other team all day long, but if all you are doing is burning clock and scoring 3pts after 3pts, that’s a recipe for a loss.

3-4 yards a carry, no turnovers, and JG is even 50% and we are good. I think all are doable.

I don’t understand people who think 150 yards would be successful but 175 yards wouldn’t?
