What makes a successful rushing day?

What yardage do you consider to be a good rushing performance in Athens

This quote got me thinking
As I saw some of the responses.

Roman Harper:

“Tennessee will not run the football against this Ga defense. They are too good. Won’t happen.”

There is no denying Georgia has what many think is an elite defense and many also think we have an elite OL.

So with that said let’s see what everyone thinks is a successful game on the ground in Athens.

I think we need over 150 because I really believe whichever team has more rushing yards wins.

It’s really hard to say successful/unsuccessful simply by total yards.

I voted 125, and I’d say if Tennessee could get 125 or more at Georgia this year on 35 attempts or less it would be successful. However that wouldn’t necessarily include a win.

125+ would have forced Georgia to respect and account for the running game the entire contest.....thus open things up a bit more for the passing game.

150 would certainly give Tennessee a better chance at winning....but that wasn’t the question.

100 or less and Tennessee is probably playing from behind or the running game is having a bad day......nevertheless both would be bad.

Unless Tennessee’s D is having the game of their lives Tennessee needs 125+ just to be in the game.

I just don’t believe 125 yards will get it done. 150 or more should but that may not be realistic because UGA is going to make JG beat them throwing the ball. That is what I would do if I were DC. It will be interesting to see how JC calls this game. Will we run to set up the pass with the traditional approach or the opposite. UGA’s defense is loaded with great athletes. Hopefully Chaney has some new wrinkles to roll out for this game. We are about to find out how good our o line really is.

We've got to have a successful rushing game in order to set up the pass. If our OL can get around that 4 ypc or better statistic against UGA's base defense, the dawgs could be in for a rough day. If they need to bring help to stop our run, they're in trouble. I think they game will be won or lost based on how we perform rushing against their defense.

When we have the ball, it's going to be big boy football on the LOS, snot bubbles and berserker rages aplenty IMO.

I actually think we have to use the pass to set up the run. Even this past weekend our best run down was 2nd and long when the defense was expecting pass. Jmo but they have to respect the pass or they will stop us from running

They haven’t faced an OL as talented as we are so saying we won’t run on them is as dumb as those hedges and Kirbys visor.

I really like our play where Velus cuts across like he’s taking a sweep and we hand it to Gray and he runs the other direction. That’s got to be hard to defend since either guy can burn you for a big gain.
I like it but I’ve seen the read missed that should have went to Velus instead of Gray.

This is true. Georgia is going to stack the box until we hurt them in the pass game. Because that is how teams played him last year. They are going to force him to throw it thinking he can’t beat them in the air.

a good running game and good OL will keep the Georgia offense off the field which will be a big help,
as BruinVol said it helps to be successful on the ground to set up the pass - let hope JG comes through

I think Georgia will stuff the run early and force JG to hit some passes. If we get something going in the vertical passing game, it opens up the run and we win. If not, we lose. I also don't think the dink and dunk passing game will get us home.
