What kind of attendance are we expecting for Ball State?

Don't have a clue how the level of competition, the Thursday nite time slot, and still a twinge of COVID fear will play out. I am hoping to see a lot of bodies in the seats one way or the other. If people can't go for whatever reason, rather than leaving the tickets in the drawer, electronic or other, I hope they attempt to sell or even give away their tickets if necessary to VOLS who do not or cannot do the season ticket thing and would love to have a game experience. I loved the thread on the baseball board to get tickets into the hands of fans who would put their fannies in the stands. Whether or not perception is reality or not, it is a bad look to have national TV show a bunch of empties while declaring an elevated status as a fanbase.

For the life of me I will never understand the decision of playing these opening season games on a Thursday night when people have to work the next day. Why wouldn't play on Saturday at noon? You would get a much bigger crowd.

Guessing the tradeoff for a team on the rise (we hope) rather than being at the top is that being the only game on the tube that night gives us more exposure than being one of a gillion noon games or among the 8-9 o'clock nite games on Saturday. Bet we would not be 3:00 or 6:00 time slot game. Especially when we are unveiling our updates including the new videotron and the return of VOLS signs, etc. Bet we get more prospects eyes on us this way too. Surely there are enough folks with minimal drives to use tickets if made available.

Too bad Labor Day holiday is Monday not Friday.

Actually the Thursday night opening weekend game was something that Mike Hamilton and Butch Jones 'pioneered' for good reasons.
I read an interview once about it and the thought process was this:
1) It's Thursday night before all the fall TV shows kick up - nothing else on TV to watch
2) Thursday night with most high schools already in season and Thursday for most HS teams is a rest day before game day, so you get recruits looking for something to watch
3) At that time, no one else was playing on Thursday night, so exposure was great - unfortunately ESPN and others have latched on so you aren't the only thing on that night anymore
4) For recruits taking an official visit, you actually can keep them on campus through the weekend so you get two extra days

It started out as a novel, good thing but now it seems that everyone is doing it so getting the exposure you want kind of goes away.
You have to do one of two things in my opinion - schedule a top ten team that you think you can beat or hang tight with or schedule the Ball States and turn it into a 60 minute highlight machine...just my ramblings.

Ima be there with my family and lots of friends are going, but I live locally. Haven't missed an opener in a long time barring COVID season. Also going to Kensucky and Missery games. Not sure on Florida yet. Living here, the cupcakes are great because you can usually get free tickets for the non-conference games easy.

Surprising amount of recruits take official visits during the season - a lot more than you would think.
Never really understood how it fits in with high school season schedule.

Yeah they would usually get in late Friday or early Saturday from what I’ve seen unless they have a Thursday game. Never heard of an official visit for a Thursday night game.

Not sure about that. Was the Ole Miss game last year technically still short of a sell out? It definitely wasn’t a full house but maybe they announced full capacity with 102k.

The Ole Miss game was officially a sellout. There may have been unoccupied seats, but there were no available tickets from the university at kickoff.
