(A guy) lines up right and then he won't line up right. That makes it hard on your quarterback to be consistent when we're not consistent outside.''"

He also intimated that his confidence did not increase because of the Ohio game as evidenced by his progressively throwing the ball less as the game went on.

So Kiffin agrees with what many of us have been saying... Crompton has his issues but he isn't the only problem UT has in the passing game. The Vols don't have reliable receivers.

Crompton is to blame on 90% of the passes he attempts. Plain and simple. Kiffin is just protecting his QB, like he said he was going to do through out the season.

That's all fine and good, but we are going into game 5 and already have 2 losses. If Crompton continues to play like he has to this point, Stephens should at least get a shot, even if it is for one series. I'm sick of watching this train wreck of a quarterback!

If only we could convince the armchair QB coach fans that is the problem. People ripping a 22 yr old whose lifelong dream was to wear the orange and white, and then taking it a step further by blasting his parents. When did the Vol fans lose their class?

Yep, Kiff is trying to stand by his man! It's hard for timing and routes to be great when you have a QB that's struggling to get anything going. Probably is a shock to the receiver when the ball actually hits him in a good spot. If it does hit them well they need to make sure they catch it though! Take advantage of a rare situation.

Not bashing Cromp. He is giving all he has for the Big Orange.

Those are not fans. If you look at other boards they all have some like this. It is part of INTERNET life.

In tough times fans are tough. We have the internet now which lets many of us see and hear MUCH more of stuff like our fans are saying this and last year. I have heard grumblings over the many years of being a Vol fan but it was at the games or from a fan here and there locally and on call in shows which didn't last long. That was until I got online a few years back and started getting on these message boards. Sometimes I think they out number the positive fans on here. Wait till we are back on top and everyone wants to ride the boat again. Sometimes the bandwagon riders got on my nerves as badly as the negaVols do now.

I would agree with that and considering he is completing 57 %, thrown away 20 % had 10 % dropped and i will not even mention the probably 5-10 % of wrong routes ran. that means he has screwed up on 13 % of his throws. Yep that is 100 % of them!

Let me go to your job and watch you in from of 100,000 people!

I am not defending him. He stills make a lot of unnecessary mistakes but MY GOD, i am tired of Vol fans throwing the kid under the bus. there are a lot of screw ups on this team and he is not the only one.

Why is everyone not all over Vinson for his performance? he could not cover my fat rear end much less a SEC receiver!

Will some of the armchair QB's and receivers answer this question for me? Why is it, with only a few exceptions (pass dropped by BB and pass overthrown to Teague), that for the most part our receivers are never that open? Is it the routes they run, the play calling, the receivers aren't pushing off, or Crompton never finds the open receiver?

Please treat this as a serious question and not another opportunity to blame Crompton, unless you truly believe that is the case. With the exception of a couple of routes, even our completed passes are to receivers who take a hit shortly after making the catch. However, OH was able to produce wide open pass routes against our secondary... and in other collegiate games receivers on other teams are catching passes with the nearest defender 10 yards away. Again, with only a few exceptions, our receivers don't seem to be getting that open.

It's probably been discussed already but I thought the early game plan was too much of a "take what they are giving us" rather than "impose our will on them". I realize they were loading the box and showing man coverage but it didn't look like we even tried to establish the run against that D. We showed later in the game we could run against the scheme.

I get the idea that it was an attempt to jump start and work on the passing game as much as anything.

I'm not saying this is a bumper crop of receivers. They don't get good separation at times. I think there is enough talent at receiver to be successful in the SEC if they had more opportunities from a good QB. The whole passing game is lacking. The weakest link HAS to be considered the QB don't you think?

P.S.
Just because I have an opinion on something that I have loved and watched since I was in single digits doesn't mean I am an "armchair coach/QB" either. We all have opinions. Never claimed to be a coach though.

1. Vinson doesn't handle the ball on every offensive snap.

2. It is simply Crompton fatigue at this point. I think everyone would simply prefer to see Nick Stephens make the same mistakes. It may be unfair, but that is simply the way it is.

the fact that most of you guys bashing crompton have no idea. i know he's not perfect, but the receivers also have to do their job and be in a certain point on the field when the ball is thrown. they also have to catch the ball.

we only see a small portion of a play on tv and i don't see how you armchair coaches can see how well a receiver runs a route. don't get me wrong, crompton does deserve some blame but i don't think it's right by the way some you guys treat crompton. GO VOLS

I'm left with little doubt that Kiffin is still trying to get a feel for this team offensively. Considering that we are four games into his tenure, that is perfectly acceptable. Did I mention that we won the game, and that the outcome was really never in doubt?

Have we dropped back and just launched a straight fly route to anyone this year?

I'd like to see us do that on play no. 1 on Saturday, just chuck it to whoever we have that's fastest...need to make sure we bait the safety up somehow though or it's getting picked most likely.

There's 2 extremes right now in Vol land. Those that blame Cromp for all our woes and those that try to pretend he is or could be a good QB. Both are wrong. This team has several weak spots. If the QB is weak naturally he sticks out the most. He is doing all he can and you have to respect that when he knows the outcome will probably not be good. I would sure hate to be his father and have to live through all the negativity. Sometimes wanting the spot light is not a good thing.

It was more of an observation than real criticism. I agree with what your are saying - at times it looked like he was in a scrimmage.

All I can say is thank God for Hardesty and Brown.

Obviously Kiffin is working on his coach speak. It won't be long now and he'll be throwing out some comments about watching film and working like heck. When coaches start spreading the blame around it starts finger pointing that ultimately ends up being pointed at them.

If I have a 22 year old man that is not doing his job, regardless of the excuses, I find another man that can do it.

It was in serious doubt when they scooped up a Crompton fumble and took it to the house. Thank your blessings their guy had a foot out of bounds.

People should ask Cleveland Browns fans how they feel after the debacle Sunday. They pull Quinn who was ineffective and put in Anderson who threw 3 INT's. The grass is not always greener on the other side. The coaches we have on this staff did not come here to lose, I am sure as the sun rises in the east that they have discussed who gives them the best option at QB to succeed this year. The last thing this staff needs is to be divided, so that leads me to think that JC is the better of 2 evils.

I agree that that game could have been a loss for us. A big fumble like that could have turned the game in their favor. We were VERY fortunate he was out of bounds.

I assume that most of the people who are blaming all this trainwreck on the starting QB are the sort of people who watch football by staring right at the ball the whole time. The receivers have been horrible.

Not saying that Crompton hasn't been terrible, but our passing game is a team-wide collaborative nightmare.

Agreed. Crompton has never had great talent at receiver, but his play is turning this into a real "chicken/egg" situation for the entire fan base.

The challenge for the coaches is getting everybody going 100% every time, and that is a giant culture shift for this finger pointing bunch in orange.
