The majority of Vol fans have been bashing Crompton. The guy isnt the best qb in the world. Its kinda obvious but Nick Stephens isnt any better. If he was then he would be the starter. Crompton is our guy for the rest of the year. We have no option. He is the best guy at the position to win us the game, even if its not that great. I know hes had 100000000 chances but just back him up because the other qbs would do way worse. The coaches will figure something out and get us to a bowl game. Just be patient.

I agree with you somewhat. Crompton is the most capable QB on the roster as sad as it is.

With that said, Kiffin won't stick with him the whole year if he puts up performances like today. Hell, I could see him being benched if he has 3 INT's against Florida.

I think alot of the fans actually started realizing that mid-third quarter, cause i started hearing a whole lot more supportive cheering on offense at that point including a lot more supportive things like "we know you can do it crompton" and "I still believe in you crompton"....a whole lot more of those started to come out

Kiffin's already said before, he pledged he's not going to pull a qb out to put another one in mid-game

What people aren't taking into consideration is that our OL also blows. I could probably get pressure on Crompton with the way they played today.

Until Kiffin has had time to bring in better talent at these positions, we have no choice but to ride this storm out.

I was referring to being benched for Ohio which would be a good game for Stephens to build his confidence. I would give JC the whole game against Florida to either redeem himself or put himself as the back up.

I agree with you 100% As long as hes our guy we have to stand by him.

Crompton: 167/86, 51.5%, 889yds, 4td, 5ints
Stephens: 130/63, 48.5%, 840yds, 4td, 3ints

Our choices here are very limited in that these two look very similar, today I believe that I would have rather left Crompton in than put in a cold Stephens. I agree with Kiffin not wanting to alternate mid-game, but I think I would have to take a serious look at practice at which would handle pressure well. We may have some short memories but last year when we did swap out Stephens wasn't our answer either we were still failing at our passing game, bout the only thing that changed is that Stephens could throw it in the air and let Moore run under it.

We need all need to listen to what Kiffin has told the players and apply the 24 hour rule. Next week will always be another week, but come win, lose, draw we are still the Big Orange.

Go Vols!

If VN gave out Understatement of the Week awards, this one would win.

But I was referring to what I saw in this:

Recap - NCAA - Football - SI.com

Mainly this:

Kiffin, who has pledged not to shuffle quarterbacks during games, stuck with Crompton. Tennessee went three-and-out on its next two drives, and Forbath answered with field goals of 31 and 47 yards to give UCLA a 19-10 lead with 2:39 in the third quarter.

I agree but Kiffin can't play Crompton all year if he plays like he did today . I told a friend of mine during the game that Cromp would not come out simply because the coaches feel he was the best shot to win games out of fall camp . Sitting in the stands today everyone knew we could not throw it after his 3rd pick so UCLA could key on the run and pin their ears back and come hard during passing situations . Any line is going to look worse than they are in those circumstances , we were also banged up on the o line this week to . I felt they looked ok until the turnover circus started . We were able to run the ball and Crompton had time he just could not make the right decision or deliver the ball .

Thats all that is goin on. Crompton bashing or fire Coach Kiffin. I have viewed this forum for a year and a half and its time i post. I have been a vol fan all of my life and wil be till I die. The following is just my opinion.

Is Crompton goin to lead us to any titles? NO

Did anyone think that he was goin to, goin into this season? I sure hope not.

I know Crompton threw three picks but I still don't hate him nor am I goin bash him. I would support Stevens if he came in, I just wonder who would come in when he started throwing picks, and make NO mistake about it he would throw picks. Neither Crompton or Stevens are superstars, I dont care how many high school records they broke.

ANYWAY, the surprise I have seen on here tonight is that nobody has talked about the exact play when the offense really got off track. I know it was never rolling like a freight train, but what air was in it got let out in the second quarter. Crompton? yea it was him . He threw the ball a little behind and it hit Hancock in the hands and hit the ground. would have been at least 25 yard gain. I'm not saying anything would have been different if he caught it taking us into UCLA territory but it might have been. Next play Crompton fumbles? No center snaps ball early but it goes in Crompton stats. UCLA recovers leading to TD.

It seemed everything went downhill from there. I know all about Crompton but he and the NEWLY FAMOUS Nick Stevens are all we have. CLK is old mother hubbard and there aint much in the cubbard as far as QBs anyway and thats NOT HIS FAULT.

I really like CLK and Im behind him and the Vols. He lost to UCLA by four points in his second game. Give the guy a break..support him and the entire vol coaching staff and in two to three years Im sure you brilliant armchair quarterbacks will be proud to be a vol AGAIN.oh and yes he and the VOLS are goin to get beat by Florida. I would love to be wrong ....God would I love to be wrong but live in reality we can't match up with them and you can pencil in any QB u want from any team u want to start for us Sat. and we still lose that one. It is what it is.

"I told them that isn't what we are. That isn't what a championship mentality is. A little bit of finger pointing came out and we have to teach them," he said. "You either win or you lose, and everybody on that team lost today."

CLK after the game. I wonder who had the most fingers pointed in their face.

I like how the defense is taking the heat saying it was their fault. I think this team unity is the best in a Tennessee team ive seen in a while. Btw good post Mtn Vol.. Welcome...

I think they've been doing that alot the last few years and oftentimes stand up for each other. I think just this time we're not all adamently blaming the coach for everything that went wrong...

That is true. Now Phil, Sanders, Clawson, etc are gone who else could the blame get put on? The fan favorite seems to be Crompton. I just think these players are different from the players last year. It hasnt really shown yet but only time can tell. Seems like they have a little more character to themselves. Maybe its because the pu$$ys left in the spring.

If I had to point out one thing that could make or break this season is how well this team will handle disapointment. If they were to collapse in on each other and start throwing blame around all of a sudden they are just play to watch out for themselves, and things will go south in a hurry.

hm...interesting point.

ad Reminds me about the guy behind me at the game constantly fussing at another fan about how bad -(i wasnt one being referred to) - the fanbase had gotten because we were unhappy/booing everything/saying everything was wrong that wasn't us completely blowing out another team

I last statement made me laugh a bit b/c it now made me try to think of a scenario where the entire fanbase would be blaming Morley for everything that was going wrong

however, still. these guys have always had each others backs in tough times, even last year. (remember everyone/every player past and present coming even to fulmer's aid a year or two ago?) the guys on these teams are always close to each other like brothers, and that's a good thing

That is true. We have to remember these are 18-21 yr old kids here. Anything is possible. They might breakdown and win 5 games or they might get the O's sh*t together and do something this year. You never can tell. Im looking for 8 games. Well 6 now after what I witnessed today and making a bowl. If that happens then it will be a success. I just wish everyone would chill out and see what happens.

And that is a huuuuuge point people watching this often miss or forget. They expect these players all to be perfect every down of every game in college football, but it can't happen and they will mess up because of that reason exactly

The problem I see with this thinking is the fact that the tams kicking our teeth in are also full of 18 year old kids.

the point is though that most of these guys are 18-21 year old kids who are amateur athletes but we as fans often treat them as though they should play mistake-free all the time like professional athletes, and there in often lies the major problem
