1. The SEC sucks, is overrated and overhyped, and is the product of the ESPN media train. The PAC-10 is easily as good, if not better than the SEC.

2. Recruiting classes and don't matter, despite the fact that history and statistical analysis tell us different. Oregon is more talented than every team in the SEC not named Alabama.

3. Oregons defense is better than Alabama's because they give up less yards per play. Furthermore, giving up 500 yards in consecutive weeks(to ASU and Stanford none the less) is a product of the offense running no huddle, and scoring so quickly.

4. Cam Newton is an overrated bum who should be playing TE or DE. The fact that he leads the nation in passing efficiency is irrelevant, he's only being hyped due to the SEC sucking so bad.

5. Cliff Harris is as good as Patrick Peterson.

With that said, I'd like to point out that not all Oregon fans are this extreme. Some bring up valid points and provide solid arguments. Others go a little too far in their pursuit to push for PAC-10 superiority. For the most part, I enjoy posting on PAC-10 boards. It gives me an idea of opposing thought, and how they feel about their own conference as well as rival conferences.

I'd love to here some opinions on the above points.

the meltdown when oregon loses a couple of games is going to be fun to watch.

My only issue is the lack of humbleness. Relish the moment, as they're few and far between. No need to try and bash everyone else, especially teams that are historically better, and will likely be better in coming seasons.

I wish I could enjoy it too but people will forget it and move on to the blazers.

they truly believe that oregon is on teh cusp of being texas/alabama/usc. they had the same arrogance in 01 and preceeded to go under .500 in pac-10 play for the next 5 years.

1. The SEC IS down this year. It's Alabama, and then Arkansas, Auburn, USC, and maybe Florida, and then a whole bunch of cannon fodder.

2. Of course they matter, but rankings aren't the only component. Talent development and fitting a system matter. And there are sleepers and busts.

3. BS on the first part, but there is a bit of truth in the second part.

4. I don't think he's over-rated or under-rated. He's properly rated. He's a talent, whose still rough around the edges. He's in a very good college system. I don't know what huge amounts of hype they are referring to. They're probably just butt-hurt because Oregon's QB isn't in the spotlight they think he should be in.

5. I don't think so, but it is perhaps debatable. We're talking about different defenses facing different types of offenses. I would argue that Patrick Peterson is more versatile and athletic, which is why he gets the benefit of the doubt and edge in my mind.

Btw that list sums up football discussions you'll have with most fans around Autzen.

Great post. I disagree on some points, but it was a fair analysis on both sides.

As for Florida? I expect them to slowly get better. Possibly drop another game or two, due to the ineptness of Steve Addazio, but I think they'll be pretty strong next season. They're really green right now.

SEC is having a weak year but the PAC 10 aren't exactly lighting it up either. Tough couple years coming up.

After a strong non conference showing I gotta believe the PAC 10 is a solid #2 behind the sec.

Why is Stanford ranked, and how long do you expect Arizona to stay undefeated?

they're ranked because oregon is ranked too high. and no arizona wont stay undefeated. i assure you the pac-10 will have multiple teams ranked by the end of the season.

I see a good season coming up for the SEC. Florida will be better, LSU and UGA will have a new coaches, and as a result, be better. Tennessee will again show signs of life. USCe will he headed by their young gun slinger, and Marcus Lattimore will be a year older. Alabama will still be Alabama, and Cam Newton will still be at Auburn. Oh, and Mississippi State is slowly getting better.

Who? And I'm not trying to bash, this is a serious question.

I have Oregon, Arizona(maybe), and probably Stanford.

winner of the cal/ucla game will be ranked eventually (I see the winner finishing top half of the league and the loser mailing in the rest of the season). USC could easily get it together. oregon state has been known to get it going once the regular season starts. it's still early.
