Hooker at backup QB (you could argue that he should be the starter). We've never seen a QB put up numbers that he put up here before, and may never again. He was the Heisman frontrunner before he got hurt in the South Carolina game.

31
27
58 TDs
5 Ints
6000+ passing yards
1046 rushing yards
10 rushing TDs
68.8% completion percentage
SEC Offensive player of the year
All conference 1st team

Hendon was undoubtedly the best player in college football his senior season, and probably would've won the Heisman had he not been injured. Only Peyton Manning is comparable when you look at his body of work.

That's over 7000 yards of total offense in 2 years with 68 TDs and 5 Ints (I couldn't find his fumble stats so can't add those in for a total turnover number).

Those numbers are better than anything any QB in Tennessee history has produced. Neither Milton nor Nico could come close to replicating those numbers so it's not only that Hendon benefited from the system.

Jackie Walker, Steve Kiner, and Jack Reynolds have to be in the conversation at LB. Tim Priest and Bobby Majors in the conversation in the defensive backfield and Doug Atkins has to be on the team, he was selected as thte SEC Player of the Quarter Century from 51-75.

I like your team for the most part although I’d find a spot for Rico McCoy and Jason Allen. Jamal Lewis as the starter as well.

Shuler and Iceman are my QBs

Chuck Webb was probably better than Reggie Bush--a Reggie Bush with more power.

I have to have Larry Seivers in the receiving corps. He caught everything within reach--IMO, much better than Joey Kent.

Also, my fav OLB, Eric Westmoreland. Westmoreland was never flashy, but always in the right position, great in pass coverage and I don't remember him missing a tackle. I don't think any Vol has ever played the position better.

Patterson was a great returner, but I wouldn’t have him in over Eric Berry.

Hard to pick receivers or defensive linemen.. Give me a healthy Jesse Mahalona any day, with Derek Barnett on the opposite end. Those guys played their tails off every down. RIP Jesse.

Good list , thanks for research. My changes

RB- good ones but I have Jamal #1 and Webb #1A

WR- i would include probably the most overlooked player in UT history, Stanley Morgan, somewhere in there. Geez I wish he could have played on some of our great teams.

OL- would rate Tim Irwin 14 years in the NFL over Munoz, who is legitimately in the what might have been category

Center- Mc Kenzie was exceptional but Bob Johnson was 2nd player drafted in 68, would swap them.

DL- got to have Atkins, as mentioned Player of the 1950-75 Quarter Century.

LB- I loved AJ but we have had probably 20 LBs better than him. Emanuel, Naumoff, Jackie Walker , Kiner, Jack Reynolds , Keith DeLong and the saddest what might have been of alltime Tom Fisher who was killed right before spring practice in 66.

Albert Dorsey- competent player who had 1 great quarter in his career. But since that quarter was the 4th of the 67 Alabama game, have no problem with him. :)

You almost need 2 lists, those before 64 when players went both ways and after when unlimited substitution was enacted. Can you imagine what Atkins could have done if he concentrated solely on defense?

Chuck Webb is RB1
Atkins is DL1

Munoz shouldn’t be in there - could’ve been the best ever, but he couldn’t even walk - otherwise, great work! We’ve had some amazing players come through here….

Think he ment Eric's little brother. He is easily our greatest return guy and he showed up in the clutch. The Dobbs hail mary doesn't happen without his great kickoff return

Thank you.

Maybe I meant Evan. I thought I remembered Eric returning as a freshman and even if he didn’t, his pick returns were electric.
