What is your response?

Turn your tv off, and get out more Woodman. The world is not as bad as you seem to think. When we become afraid of each other the enemy wins. I’ve made a point to smile and speak to people these days that I would not have in the past. The vast majority of the time it’s well received. I know it’s been good for my heart.

Thank you for the suggestion. However, I do believe I said I smile at least. To be frank, I like your advice. Still, when you get so many gruff and snotty looks just for trying to be polite and seeing yourself and other folks mocked and falsely accused, you learn to just smile and keep walking. But at least smile which is what I do. Because after all when you see someone without a smile, give them yours for it is a poor fellow indeed who doesn't have one to give.

we have alot of Vols here in Fort Lauderdale/Miami area, I always chat them up. We take our UT umbrella or Tent to the beach every weekend, got my UT tags on my jeep and flag outside my house. Season just a few weeks away, and im ready for some football, cant wait to open my brewery and cheers with some fellow Vols fans who are either living here or on vacation! Its always cool to hear a Go Vols or GBO when I pass some rando while im rocking ahat or tee.
Vols are everywhere!
Here I'm thinking that's cool I also like to get up early on game days and break out the mash tun and kettle on the deck. But you have an actual brewery... that's awesome.

I just moved from Augusta Ga to Maryville TN. It's no longer an issue.

Now my 8 year asks why the guy down the road has a UGA flag

You’re gonna LOVE this response...

Vol fan since I was 10, live in Wisconsin, have three kids 14,11,7. Down on vacation in Pigeon Forge Gatlinburg area and went to Cades Cove and was walking towards an old Cabin to learn stuff and passed another dad about my age (40), with his kids. Both of us in Vols shirts and I say calmly “Go vols.” And he nods “Go Vols.” HIS BOY, hears us and looks at my kids and says “go vols” to which my kids still don’t know what’s going on and look at me confused.

SO...I say it again as they walk by and have a talk to my kids about proper Volunteer etiquette. So then my 11 year old daughter was saying Go vols to everyone in the Smokies wearing UT clothing.

Good girl.

Side note: she wants a “Wild as a Mink but sweet as soda pop” shirt. 👍🏻

Hey bud! Where will you all be located?! Also would this brewery of yours be considered a Vol watch bar on saturdays?! There are very few places to watch without the Ohio st FSU gator canes taking all the TVs..Would love to come by and get a few cold ones...
I’m close to Pensacola bro

So I am a die hard vol living in Florida and obviously we get a lot of tourism in my parts. I always enjoy when the Tennessee crowd makes it down for the summer and I can talk some Tennessee football with a fellow fan. But sometimes it doesn’t always work out like that. I love Tennessee football, so naturally when I see someone sporting a vols hat or T-shirt I say “go vols”. Recently I have had a lot of weird responses like “thank you” “Yupp” and I also got a blank stare. If someone random saw you and said go vols what is your response? I’d hope you’d greet with a “Hell right brother” or a simple “go vols” in return.
P.s.
Go vols

I hear what you're saying, and I've witnessed it myself. You'll always get a positive and enthusiastic response from me if you see me in a UT hat or shirt and you're wearing something similar and say something first. But having gotten the same responses you have from jerks, I don't usually initiate the contact.

I also think the Florida Gulf Coast is so packed with fans from SEC schools obnoxiously displaying their gear that some people -- myself included -- just get tired of seeing it. For example, I'd never put up my Power T tailgate canopy on the beach because I don't want to participate in that kind of tribalism when I'm on vacation. When I see bammer and Aubie and Georgie and LSU canopies on the beach, I tend to think, "How sad that your entire identity and life is wrapped around a football team."

Despite that, if I'm wearing a low-key Vols hat or shirt and you walk by me in a Vols hat or shirt and say Go Vols, I'm going to give you a Go Vols and a smile back because I'm not one of those a--holes who's just going to mumble or ignore a fellow Vol.

YES. YES. Thank god it's not just me. My wife (from a tOSU family, I'm working on converting her) always laughs because the same thing always happens. It's become a running joke. I'll get jacked up to see another Vol here in metro Atlanta and say just a simple "Go Vols man!", just to have them go "mm-hmm" or "yup" or just smile or half smile, or even laugh. What's up with that???? What the hell is wrong with some of you people? I would say this happens 8 or 9 out of 10 times, no exaggeration.

You are not alone, Kahuna. To you I say, "Go Vols!"

I always say “Go Vols baby!”

I know Palm Beach is a little north of you guys, but the University of Tennessee Alumni Association-West Palm Beach Chapter, typically has football watch parties in the upstairs private dining room at Duffy's Sports Grill on the corner of PGA Blvd and US-1 (North Palm Beach) . Typically between 40-60 people and ALL VOLS! You can search them on Facebook. They always have events going on and have been voted the top Alumni Chapter in the country for the past 18 years straight! They do it right! There is info on a Football Kickoff Mixer on their FB page that they are doing in Delray on the 22nd that will include West Palm Beach Chapter and Miami/Ft Lauderdale Chapter combined. They are always putting on events for Basketball and Football.Screenshot_20190817-031006_Facebook.jpg

It's odd to think that someone would go out in Vols gear these days (sorry guys, just being realistic), and not respond when a fellow Vol hoolas at.

OP, I'm guessing that you're wearing your own Vols gear when you do this?

and yeah, Go Big Orange!

I do it for that very reason... It's the closest we can get in South Florida to being able to identifying decent people 😂😂😂! I've had many upon many conversations that strike up networking opportunities and friendships for this very reason. Today alone, while in Home Depot in Jupiter, Florida, clad in my Vols hat and collard shirt, I had two separate conversations with knowledgeable Vol fans. Granit, I didn't get out of home depot for over an hour when only needing two items, but It was worth every second and I just suspended some of my VolNation and TOS time normally spent during my work day till when I got off to make up for it! It's always great to run into a fellow VFL far from the place most of us call home! Makes my day every time!
Funny note, I actually landed my current job by meeting my future boss in a church service in West Palm Beach when he noticed my Tennessee cufflinks! Started working with the Churches and Private Schools affiliated with the Network a few months later. Been there for 5 years now.

Just a friendly PSO, I tried throwing up the Vols hand sign a few times and quickly realized if they are not true fans, it gets construed as something else. They get 'shocked" to say the least.... Especially when it is women.... Took that one out of the arsenal.

I grew up in Atlanta, came to UT. Was living back in ATL for a about 4-5 years not long after I graduated. If I was driving and spotted another UT plate coming at me, seems like they always saw mine too and both would give a quick wave, signal # 1 or a quasi peace ✌️ sign wave....every time. It was like an acknowledgement that we knew we were in enemy territory and go Vols at the same time. Plus we were really good at that time too so it was kind of fun giving it to the UGA fans that always thought they had won the game before it was even played.
