So I am a die hard vol living in Florida and obviously we get a lot of tourism in my parts. I always enjoy when the Tennessee crowd makes it down for the summer and I can talk some Tennessee football with a fellow fan. But sometimes it doesn’t always work out like that. I love Tennessee football, so naturally when I see someone sporting a vols hat or T-shirt I say “go vols”. Recently I have had a lot of weird responses like “thank you” “Yupp” and I also got a blank stare. If someone random saw you and said go vols what is your response? I’d hope you’d greet with a “Hell right brother” or a simple “go vols” in return.
P.s.
Go vols

Minimally, some acknowledgement: Tip of the hat. "Go Vols!" "Gee-Bee-Oh!" "Go Big Orange!" Wave. Thumbs up. Hand sign T. Nod. Smile. "Brother in Orange!" "Sister in Orange!" "Tennessee!"

Of course, if there's time for a chat, that's usually what ensues.

YES. YES. Thank god it's not just me. My wife (from a tOSU family, I'm working on converting her) always laughs because the same thing always happens. It's become a running joke. I'll get jacked up to see another Vol here in metro Atlanta and say just a simple "Go Vols man!", just to have them go "mm-hmm" or "yup" or just smile or half smile, or even laugh. What's up with that???? What the hell is wrong with some of you people? I would say this happens 8 or 9 out of 10 times, no exaggeration.

You are not alone, Kahuna. To you I say, "Go Vols!"

Bud I hear ya, I live in south Florida and send out “go Vols” regularly. Sometimes I get blank stares or the “yea” and I almost want to take it back from them 😆.

My wife and I have contest when we go to the Orlando area theme parks and see who can get the most “go Vols” in return. The mark of a true Vol fan to me is when the response is “go big orange”

we have alot of Vols here in Fort Lauderdale/Miami area, I always chat them up. We take our UT umbrella or Tent to the beach every weekend, got my UT tags on my jeep and flag outside my house. Season just a few weeks away, and im ready for some football, cant wait to open my brewery and cheers with some fellow Vols fans who are either living here or on vacation! Its always cool to hear a Go Vols or GBO when I pass some rando while im rocking ahat or tee.
Vols are everywhere!

My 6 year old grandson and I were walking on the beach in South Carolina this past Spring. He said look Pops a couple of VOL fans are headed our way. He had on a Power T hat and she had on a Vols T-shirt. When the man and woman were about to pass us my grandson says GO VOLS as loud as he can. They stop for a few minutes and we talk football. We shook hands and parted ways. My grandson said, "I was waiting on you to say GO VOLS and it didn't look like you were going to, so I did". I said it was a test son and you pasted with flying colors. He said so far meeting those two have been my favorite part of the trip. My grandson gets the true meaning of VFL. The next morning before we headed out for our walk he said hold on a minute. He started digging through his suitcase. He pulled out his Vols T-shirt and put it on. I said you do know that doesn't match you shorts? He looked at me with a strange look on his face and said "Pops it's ORANGE, ORANGE goes with everything". Can you tell I am proud of him? GO VOLS!

I respond with go Vols and a fist pump or a chat. Haven't really had any weird responses you've described.

Hey bud! Where will you all be located?! Also would this brewery of yours be considered a Vol watch bar on saturdays?! There are very few places to watch without the Ohio st FSU gator canes taking all the TVs..Would love to come by and get a few cold ones...

Funny you mention it. Last two times we went to Disney, and I saw Vol fans, I got almost zip when I would say, “Go Vols!”

I give a "Yes sir" or a "Yes Ma'am" back to those who say "Go Vols" in passing. I don't want to sound like we are copying those turds from Bama with the whole "Roll Tide" "Roll Tide" thing. My Wife and her Family are all Alabama folks so I have to hear it all the time. And yes, I know, What in the world am I doing married to a Bama fan? But she chose me. All I did was ask. Don't worry, all four of my kids bleed orange. We also live 20 minutes for Athens, Georgia so The Dawgs are more hated than anyone else in my world.

Where in FL, Kahuna? There's a pretty good sized watch group here in Tallahassee.

The short answer is that everyone is different and will respond differently to any sort of public interaction. It's normal for them, even if it seems weird to you.

Having lived most of my life outside of Tennessee, and having traveled all over the world, I have had a lot of these interactions.

1. Ignored. Didn't hear me, didn't understand me or just didn't process what was happening. There are a lot of busy and distracted people out there.
2. It's just a shirt. Sometimes it was given to them as a gift and sometimes they don't even remember where they got it. Maybe they picked it up for a dollar at Goodwill. It has no real significance to them, other than it keeps them covered up when they go somewhere. "Huh?" and/or a puzzled look usually follow.
3. They're fans, but they're just not familiar with the etiquette. Some Vol fans have never been to a game or spent time around other large groups of VFLs. So when they are suddenly in an unfamiliar verbal exchange, they are stumped for how they should reply.

As for me, it depends on the situation. But there's always a "Go Vols" in there somewhere. Sometimes it is preceded by a "Yeah, baby..." and a fist pump -- or even a high five. If I am surprised by the salute, I will usually say something like, "Alright! Yeah, Go Vols." When I see them first, I have been known to start-off with, "Hey, I like that shirt/hat/golf bag," followed by a "Go Vols."

No matter what, though, I always enjoy seeing our brand represented wherever I go.

I always give either a “thank you”, “Yupp”, or blank stare anytime the person asking has their fly unzipped. Just me.

803 NW 1st street Fort Lauderdale Fl 33311
we are about one mile off 95 just off broward/ave of the arts heading east towards down town fort lauderdale
and yes, absolutely for Vols, we have 4 tv's one of which is untapped beer menu for our brewery tap list, the other three tvs are devoted to Games and if the Vols are on, we will absoultly be on at least one 50 inch screen. You can bet that brotha!

Good job with the grand youngun. My son has two boys, 6 and 4. They live 5 blocks from Vandy to be close to my son's job. They have been inlfluenced by the other grandparents who live in Memphis and who have taken them to U of Memphis football and basketball games and Grizzlies games. Clearly I have work to do.
My daughter and her 11 month old, see my avatar, will need my attention in the coming years as his other grandparents are split between Bama and Georgia.

I will try and respond with a "Go Vols!!"

Sometimes, I don't even realize I am wearing a UT hat or shirt, so the random Go Vols will kinda surprise me and that's when I'll usually give the "yes sir!"

I'd grin, give a thumbs up, fist pump, and a dual forefinger point at them. Those that appreciate it grin back, dual point me back, or fist pump me back. A few yell a "Go Vols!" at me. But I must admit if I see Vols fans first I just smile and walk by. Sadly, and I don't blame Vols fans who seem snotty. You just don't know what people will do these days. Most Vol'ers I see nowadays act as if they don't see me even when you have a prominent Power "T" shirt or other obvious Vols stuff on. I don't fault them. So much spite and worse now, maybe like me they have found it best to do what momma said, "Don't talk to strangers." Sad that things have come to this.
