What is your LEAST favorite tradition...and why?

The cheer, "2 Vols, 4 Vols, Smokey's on the Prowl...All for Tennessee, stand up and howl."

No way I'm howling, male-cheerleader. So stop telling me what to do.

I will give you two facts:

I hate Rocky Top. It's not an official tradition
I am at least as much a fan as you. Probably a bigger fan but there's no way I can be for sure

have a nice day! :)

It was a general statement to no one in particular but I guess the hit dog barks

Game Maxims - outdated and they obviously dont have any effect on the team. Ball, oskie, cover...really???

The "woo" without question is the wimpiest tradition ever. Why not have a loud masculine sounding "VOLS!" in place of the "woo"? That is something we can all get behind.

its a Tennessee pride song so HELL YEA play it 50 times a game i get pumped everytime i hear it i absolutly love it and i've put up with it more than you because i played it in band all the time so screw you you're obiously not a VOL fan

I've been a Vol fan longer than you've been alive. LOL

Liking Rocky Top is not a qualifier as to whether or not you're a fan.

I'm aware of the waltz being played, but everyone is already gone at that point......what I'm in favor of is a move toward having a large part of the crowd stay put long enough to join in singing.......it could be teh waltz, or anything....just a signature sort of fan interaction at the conclusion

What about the "We don't give a damn song" the players sang in the locker room after beating Bama in '95. We could just insert whoever we're playing. I would love to sing this to Bama...win or lose.

As for the "woo", replace it with "Go Vols". Really, anything other than "woo" will work as long as it is 1-2 syllables..

2.) Rocky Top. Once a game, sure. However our fight song is "Down the Field" and I wish our band would play that after every touchdown or big play instead.

You don't go to games often do you?

If you actually LISTENED to the band, they play Down the Field immediately after the touchdown and through the extra point (very quietly). Then they play Rocky Top. Problem is, nobody responds to Down the Field.

EDIT: The Waltz is played very shortly after the game, why is it the band's fault that you chose to leave to "beat traffic" that everybody gets stuck in anyway?

1.) Smokey as our mascot. This one has always bugged the hell out me. We are the VOLUNTEERS and I think the "Davy Crockett" image is way more fitting. I think Smokey is great as a secondary figure and would be a nice companion to the pioneer but definitely should not be our primary masoct.

"Down the Field" is the first thing played after every score...

I cannot stand this new thing that the man-leaders do when they go out on the field before the game and start the orange and white chant in their typical raspy voices.... talk about lame. It's simply embarrassing.

+1,000,000.

How can you dislike ANY UT tradition? I took my two friends from Michigan down to the UGA game earlier this year and they were in awe of it all. The Vol Walk. The VOLS chant. The Vol Navy. The southern food. The videoboard. The stadium size. The hospitality. The weather. The mountains. The crowd singing Rocky Top in unison.

And of course, the girls. Holy smokes.

How anyone can say anything there is not incredible disgusts me.

The male cheerleader talking thru the megaphone trying to get the orange white chant and lead the great to be a tennessee vol chant while nobody in the stands are paying attention to him right before the band starts the real pregame.
