Staff writer for Techsideline.com covering VT football and men's hoops. ESPNRadio jock for the last 3 years as well.

I'm prolly gonna publish part I tonight. You can certinaly view it FREE view on our website. I'd be happy to put it here if the volnation.com powers that be approve. I must defer to their consent; as they run this show; not me.

I have absolutely zero power on this board but I say start a thread with a link to the article. You're questions and observations seem to indicate that you have a good knowledge of the game. I'd be interested in reading the article. Just be prepared for a little negative fan reaction.

That's of interest to me. Your UT D's size (kinda slim) and Poppa Kiffin's schemes (Tampa based) predicate themselves on Speed right?

Speed would be the one thing I'd think you guys have. Is that incorrect?

Speed is good at every position but LB.

Thompson is a smart guy with good instincts but not a very good top-end.

Lathers is a great athlete but he's a freshman playing MLB in a Pro-style D. He still thinks too much at times instead of just playing.

McCoy has a lot of speed but he misses tackles at times. He is the best LB on the time hands down.

i would definately keep a spy on taylor cause without the scramble yards no way they will move the ball on us. they can't just line up and run all over us without a passing game which they won't have

VT is really quick on special teams..
My two biggest worries would be containing Ryan Williams/Tyrod Taylor and my other would be of course special teams. I live 45 minutes away from VT campus and cant stand them Mfers! KILL EM VOLS!

I haven't seen enough of VT to know your strengths and weaknesses. My biggest concern is special teams. Ours has been pathetic all year, while Beamer ball is legendary.

Bourbon st.- Pure speculation here, but I'd say 14 will be used and featured frequently and expect a few big plays. (Blitzes off the strong side, a pick or two, multiple tfl.) Welcome to VN and I think the biggest game changer will be our ability to apply pressure inside and out to TT. If we do, our schemes allow for gang-tackling, if we fail to, we allow your athletes to get the ball in a developed spot and we have graded ab 78-82% imho in open field tackling.

For the UGA game, to stop Green, Monte pulled out his old Tampa file for the scheme they used vs Steve Smith. I would imagine vs Tyrod Taylor(and Ryan Williams), he would pull out the old file they used vs Mike Vick (and Warrick Dunn).

Taking an offensive and or defensive prespective...

If you were Coach Lane Kiffin; what couple of things look really favorable to UT on paper?

Conversely, and in addition to a possible Special-Teams mismatch ... what other things would you say might just give Tennessee match-up fits???

TIA-
b-st.

UT has been hit with critical injuries at LB. Your RB's out of the backfield could be a problem if TT can keep his head and not take off all the time. I like UT's secondary vs your WR's and the Vol DL against your OL... especially Dan Williams and a healthier Chris Walker.

The biggest thing for UT on O for most of the season has actually been Kiffin himself. For all the distractions and howling from opponents, the guy is an elite schemer and playcaller.

Talent wise, I think your D is similar to So Carolina. Kiffin got in a rhythm against them and ripped them. You're also somewhat similar to Ole Miss in talent.... CLK obviously couldn't get anything much going against them.

In short, UT's X's don't really seem to match up all that favorably against your O's... but when Kiffin is right and gets "good" execution from the guys... it doesn't always matter.

Best and worst matchups IMO...

Best matchup for TN: VT's air attack vs. TN's secondary. Biplanes vs. missles.

Worst matchup for TN: VT's KO & punt return team vs. TN's KO & punt coverage team. Tanks vs. horse cavalry.

Yes, that is how Boston College and Kansas in the Orange Bowl both wrecked out backfields.

Though the book on TT has been to play contain with De's. Use his height against him by keeping him inside the pocket and off the edge where he can kill you with the run or pass.
