What is up with the UT fanbase?

How in the heck can anyone say what Butch's peak will be until after his tenure is over?
That just boggles my mind. In 1998 we were not supposed to compete for an SEC title much less a NC. Then we had a couple bad injuries on top of that. But what happened.
In 1999 and 2001 we were supposed to win it all and didnt even win the SEC.
I know its cliche, but you people need to remember.....IT IS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES......Try and find some joy in following the VOLS and keep the crying, whining, and soothsayin stuff to those around you that are willing to listen.........oh wait, maybe that's why you do it here cause nobody will listen in person!!

I basically agree with your point and would only make a minor correction. We were not supposed to win it all in 2001. In fact, we were 17 point underdogs to Florida when we "drained the swamp" that game which was postponed until the end of the year due to 911. Still, that huge upset in Gainesville has to be a great moment in Vol history. People tend to look at the negative. I'm sure more people look back at that year and remember Georgia's hob nail boot win in Knoxville and the SEC loss to LSU, a team we had already beaten in the regular season that year, and the lost opportunity to play an incredibly good Miami team in the Rise Bowl for another NC.

All fan bases are basically the same...and they really haven't changed that much over the years.
If UT was about to play for it's 2nd NC in two years, UT's fan base would basically act just like Bama's fan base.

Or even Clemsons fanbase.

He apparently can't spend countless man hours, sign 4 recruiting classes, hire a million dollar a year defensive coordinator, and fix it either.

He is fixing it. Two 9 win seasons, 3 bowl wins, beating the gators and his players being drafted is a good start. I know several hope Butch fails but I choose to hope that Butch succeeds.

You are right. Fla was heavily favored in that game even though we were 4th in the national rankings. I was at that game. Vlf34 ran wild on them and Chavis ran that prowler d with big John Henderson and co. Then we laid the 2nd half egg in secc after leading by 10 at the half. I guess my point is you never know what's going to happen until you play the game which is what makes this whole process so much fun. I just don't understand why some people can't just enjoy it and not be so darn negativeall the time
