What is the Right Approach?

How should Pruitt approach this stretch of games? In order to keep the team from giving up on themselves, should he be up front and say ‘Look, we are probably going to get our ass kicked these next few games but this is what we are going to work on and this is where I want to see improvement. ‘ Or should he just pretend like we can win these games and install their game plans and work on mistakes from last game?
It seems like we could easily end up getting 200+ points scored on us the next four games and maybe score 30-40 ourselves. I can also see JG getting injured in that stretch as well. What is the best way to keep the team focused and trying to get better?

Run the ball every play on offense and run play clock down to 1-2 seconds before snapping. However, I don't see Pruitt being a wimp like that.

Man Up and go ahead like they are all winnable games! You will soon see who are the players giving their all and who are the quitters!!

yeah, and he's already said it. gotta fix the team in this building before we worry about the other team.

and he's not wrong. you really can't worry about the opponents at this point. this is about staying as healthy as possible and developing what's on this roster.

this year is just not gonna be good, we probalby aren't going to a bowl game, and we'll have another long off season next year.

so take advantage of the time you do have right now to just work on you.

OP askes a good question. I don't know the answer, but I hope CP has his finger on the pulse of the team, W or L I hope he is able to help a player(s) improve, or find out the players that really want to be Vol. I don't think there is much chance of us beating Bama (this year) but, if Coach Pruitt can develop players etc. during the game, we'll come away with a positive. That is his job, I think he's doing it.

On 2nd thought the best approach might be to send our bag men to the opponent's sideline the next 3 game to poach their visiting recruits.

Just try to make these guys concentrate on becoming better players. Try to make them "learn". If he can do this, all at once they will look up and be ahead in some future game.

Which is what he’s done since day 1. You’re spot on Pops, he talked strictly about not scoreboard watching and focusing solely on your job/responsibilities, which will lead to the score taking care of itself. No reason to change that philosophy now.

THIS 100%. 2018 is a complete rebuilding year. Your job as players is to execute and do it to the absolute max of your abilities whether 3* or 5*. You’re a Tennessee Vol. Inheritor of a long storied tradition of toughness and greatness in good times and bad. Act like one.

Our job as VolFans is to hold our coaches and players accountable for their execution, not hate on them for their shortcomings or who they are not.

So to the players get your mind right keep your head down and keep working. Focus on crushing your responsibilities. Improve every game in what you do. Make plays. When you do well act like you’ve been there. When you screw up hit reset. You’ll be judged and evaluated by your execution and effort EVERY DOWN not based on the final score. Execute and let the scoreboard take care of itself.

The upcoming stretch of games will truly separate the winners from the quitters both on the team and among our fan base. In fact we’re seeing that already.

If Old Dominion can beat a ranked VT team, anything can happen. However, after losing to a bad UF team in very poor fashion (6 TOs), they need to play with respect. Finish each play, finish each quarter and finish the game. If they can improve dramatically against these next 3 games, then perhaps they'll have a chance to win 4 of the last games for a bowl birth.

If Banks and Jennings dont get a lot of touches I will be disappointed in Pruitt/Helton. They give everything they have every time they touch the ball and that is what we need.. Damn just go out there and give it all you got on every play and to hell with the score board. Sad thing is most of the players dont give their all on a single play let alone every play..

You serious Clark? No coach tells his players "look, we are probably going to get our a$$es kicked these next few games". Do you really want a coach to instill that kind of loser mentality in the players? We'd be even worse off than we already are. You play to win the game! Period!

Fans may know that the team has no chance. Pundits may know it. But you never want the coaches telling that to the players.

Yep.
And even if that wasn't his "process" from the beginning, you don't "pretend" like your going to compete. The players aren't stupid, they know who they are playing the next 3 games. This stretch is about separating those that want to buy in and compete and those ready for it to be over. You move on from the later and coach the rest.

yep. i've moved on to the long game. develop what you have, recruit like crazy, and we'll see you in 2020. lol.

Pruitt faces a huge problem when many of the players like to avoid contact, how he addresses this issue is going to be interesting that's for sure.
Getting rid of some of those very players may not be possible at this time, however

Eric Ainge said this morning they should simplify the offense, figure out two or three plays this bunch can remember and execute, and run them over and over. Even if it's just one play. (Isn't that what they did last week?) Also bench anybody who misses a block or assignment.

looking for improvement in every postion and tell them that "we cant win if we dont try to"
