What is the problem with our fans?

I was at the Swamp this past season for UT/UF and I had a headache the next 3 days after that game. Loudest crowd ever and they NEVER stop.

We would register on the decibel scale as a small earthquake if we were as hype as them......

I laughed.

It's hard to do, but we have to maintain our sense of humor for the next few years. :) I also picked up this inside scoop on how well Coach Akey could fit in at Tennessee from his bio ("Robb and Molly Akey with sons Jack and Daniel"). Remember, you heard it here first.

And, I'll just go ahead and be the first to say this.

If we're losing to Tennessee Martin in the home opener this year, I hope I don't have to stand for the entire game because someone in front of me insists that's what's wrong with UT football.

I was at 6 games last year. I was impressed sometimes and shocked at the lack of volume from the fans at other times. UCLA was very quiet. Auburn had a great atmosphere at times. Georgia had a decent atmosphere and South Carolina was roudy for the most part. Although I did see more and more kids as the year went on and tickets got cheaper as the losses piled up.

I think the best explanation is simply this: as the team goes, the fans go. The fans were exctited about the effort last years team gave. I know I was. I was excited to see the team rally after the 3rd quarter jumping up and down and coming together on the sidelines as a team. I think if they play with that kind of heart next year, it will be hard not to get behind them.

Remeber, nothing compares to the heart of a Volunteer!

The crowd was great in the 4th quarter for the UCLA game. I thought we were great in the UGA game as well. I agree with the effort level from the team last year and I was excited as well. We have to win games and beat our rivals at home. In the mid and late 90's you couldn't get in the upper deck for under $100. That is because the product on the field gave us something to pay for and television can't touch the excitement of a dominant team winning in front of 100K eager fans that expect to win.

That's really the difference maker in the fanbase. Anyone who witnessed those teams knows that we can do one helluva a lot better.

I'd also add that the Majors years were exciting because you could sense we were on a path towards national relevance. CJM's return to Knoxville from Pitt after winning the NC was one of the most exciting times for UT football in the post-Neyland era. And take nothing from the excitement of the 1985 Vols.

At least I'm not a Liberal.

I don't read the political forums, so if jbeard82 is a Liberal, I understand the 'selfish' comment.

From that vantage point, selfish is applied to anyone expressing a view that they deserve at least half the money they earn as opposed to just giving it all to the government through the tax and redistribution of wealth system favored by the Left.

So, I stand corrected. I am selfish, by that definition.

Misunderstood my post. I am glad to be labeled everything, just not a liberal.

It's because the average age of our season ticket holders is about 70 years old. They have a right to be there, but I don't think they know or care what it does to the atmosphere.

I certainly don't mind fans standing up in front of me cheering. What really sucks is the dumb little coeds that stand in front of me the entire game texting on the phone or taking pictures of each other!!

I noticed the same, even at an away game....aka the Chick-fil-A bowl. I was so disappointed by our fans. I'm not just talking about the 2nd half either. Even when we were in the 1st qtr, our band and fans were just like "dead." I couldn't speak the next day either. Even though the team might not be winning 9+ games, we still should have more motivation at lease for them! GO VOLS!

They need to make an "old people's" section at Neyland, where all the geezers can sit and even take naps if they want during the games. Maybe they could serve them cookies and warm milk during the games to make it more peaceful.

BS

I paid 8 bucks to get into the Auburn game in 1999, and was regularly able to score an extra single for less than 30 for any game that wasn't Florida or Alabama.

Think he is confused. Bama will be able to have the largest soon but Neyland is still on top for now. Neyland still has a capacity just over a hundred thousand (100,011 IRCC), Byrant-Denny should hold over 101,000 once the expansion is completed.

Completely agree with the OP. It's hard to even yell and support your team when some geezer calls security on you because you are yelling a little too loud on third down or goal line plays. We have some excellent older fans but we have a lot of stuck up douche bags who would be better served playing golf on Saturdays.

Bryant Denny expansion will be completed this summer and hold over 101k this season. You are correct that Neyland official capacity is 100,011.
