What is the logic of picking an L to Florida?

The blatherskypes do picks because their producers want picks. Their audience has been conditioned to expect them to make picks. [Bonus points for anyone capturing a freeze frame of one of these folks picking their nose while discussing picks.]

Usually, I participate in a CFB pick 'em for grins and giggles - straight up W/L, no point spreads or other such. When I do, I never pick against the Vols - not against UF, not against Bama, not even against the USAF 43rd Fighter Squadron fully armed with safeties off. Yeah, this may be why my best result in the past ten years was to come in fourth. I don't care. I'm orange, and when the Vols do pull off the upset, I'm usually alone that week. It's a Tennessee old fart thing...

It's probably because after injuries last season, UT's team looked like trash and then had a coaching staff overhaul.

Florida went 10-4 and 9(10)-4.
I'm guessing most talking heads think UT won't beat a 9/10 win team at their place.

in fairness, i think the way the schedule falls...has...people leaning toward KY .... b2b road games, and playing Bama the week before hasn't always been a good indicator of success....even if you have a bye after Bama.....:)
Dont we play Alabama on 10/21 and Kentucky on 10/28? Wheres the bye week?

Man, you have got to slow down and actually read posts for full comprehension before you hit reply. This is twice in 24 hours that you have misunderstood notes that are pretty clear for those who make the effort.

Jake's "even if you have a bye after Bama" comment is a sarcastic nod of the head to last year's USCe loss (which came after a bye week after the Bama game).

The key hint is the words, "hasn't always been," which is a clear hint Jake's gonna bring in some history. And then he does.

It is a bit subtle, he doesn't name the USCe game outright, but still...no one on these boards has forgotten last year's losses to USCe or Vandy (obviously, since they come up in practically every thread).

So slow down a bit...try to understand BEFORE hitting the 'reply' button. You'll seem wiser to the rest of us. :)

Last year we were the media darling of the SEC East. We made a lot of sports media personalities look stupid. Now we are the SEC East media goat. They won't give us the time of day now. We are safe punching bags. It's our job to make them look stupid again.

So they behave like every other SEC fanbase? :)

"So what if he was arrested with a bag of weed and a gun with blood all over him....we need to let the 'legal system' sort it out. Until then he should be able to play vs. ___________."

Well we are in america...innocent until proven guilty? There are certain times when evidence is overwhelming and it is just a matter of time..

But as a general rule..I personally like to give EVERYONE the benefit of the doubt...even florida players.

New QB, first true road game, hostile environment, no evidence of a good OL. All that for starters makes a L a rational pick.

However, I do not expect a L.

I know it's hard to believe, but times do actually change. Maybe not at the pace everyone wanted or expected.

But I do know that stable programs don't have 9 players in trouble during spring camp, a 3 way QB race a week from the season beginning, a graduate-transfer QB bad mouthing your head coach in public, your other QB getting into tweet wars with fans and calling the fan base "goldfish" , two straight recruiting cycles that were way off track compared to the past 10 years......and still maintain that level of success for very long.

You are watching Florida football implode. Kiffin/Dooley style. You should kick back, relax and enjoy the show. It happened to Miami, it happened to Texas, it happened to SoCal, it happened to Penn state, it happened to Tennessee....now it's Floridas turn for a decade in the dumpster.

On September 2nd at 3:30, it will become very obvious how far Florida football has fallen....it will get ugly for them.
I second that emotion. WGWTFA!!!:good!: more specific: WGWFGFA !!!

The guys on SECN were laughing at the notion of us beating them. Makes zero sense. They lost more than we did and we boat raced them last year, even after spotting them 21

The next time "last year" has any bearing on this year will be the first time.

We have a new QB, playing on the road, and playing at the Swamp (which may be the most hostile SEC environment there is). There may only be a few logical reasons to pick Florida to win, but I can't think of one significant advantage in our favor outside of a supposedly strong OK that may help keep the QB on his feet a little longer.

I can't really think of a logical reason to pick us to win, and certainly not because we beat them last year.

I think that a lot of folks are misreading some of this.

I'll use myself as an example. I would pick Florida, today.

However....do I have any confidence in that pick? No, I don't.

IMO, anyone picking either way who is confident is a fool.

But, even though I have no confidence in the pick, if someone asks "what do you think?", you have to have an answer.

Who wants to watch a preview show or read a preseason publication and the final comments from the expert is...."I don't know".

Most likely because he a UGA homer and UT hater.
Right you are. You'll never hear many words of praise coming out of any UGA fan towards UT. We as fans, just have to suck it up and stay loyal. Surely,by getting all this talent thru recruiting UT has to break through and go on a dominant run.
All this adversity, over-hype, media tricks,....etc....is wearing on me this past couple of seasons. We as a fan base and the players, coaches, admin, need to have one common goal WIN EVERY GAME. There's no place for arguing, differences of opinions, in house fighting when all is focused on ONE objective. GBO!!!!:twocents:

One day ill have this ability to understand what everyone means when they say something off the subject. When i do, ill try not to chime in 8 post later, after they explained what they meant.

Florida is very good at WR, and with their starting DL & LBs. They are thin at the last two of the 3. Other than that it's an average roster in my opinion.

Question is what positions are we "very" good at? And that's a question.... not a statement that we aren't good.

Hmmm. There's a gator, a bammer, a bulldog and a tiger on secn...:whistling:

Reading comprehension. Who needs it.

Actually, Stinchcomb did pick UK over UT. He a!so picked Mizzou over UT, I assume because those are both road games.

That's part of my point. I don't see the logic of losing to UF, because using the logic of past performance is thrown out with the UK prediction as a poster stated.

Assuming health isn't an issue, I think OL, DL and CBs... I don't see an absolute weak spot but WRs could be. QB and RBs jury is still out but has a ton of potential. Florida's offense stunk and I'm not sure having 3 QBs play against Michigan is helping their case any. Not to mention all these suspensions going on.

So are you looking at past history as the only indicator to predict a win or loss?
