What is the logic of picking an L to Florida?

I like the way our September schedule stacks up better than the way Floridas looks.

Georgia Tech
Indiana state
Florida
U-Mass
Georgia

I like that Tech is first, we get a little prep time for them.
Then Catch our breath with Indiana State at home.
Then we get to kick the sh*t out of Florida.
Then catch our breath with U-Mass
Then we get Georgia at home.

Floridas September is a little bit tougher:
They get to open the season by getting beat all to hell by Michigan and Harbaughs old man football and his fullback pounding on their front 7.

Then they get to recover with Northern Colorado.
Then we get to come in and have a very physical fist fight--as it always is.
Then they go to Kentucky, who is shooting for the moon this season with their hype train.
Then get Vanderbilt (who as we saw earlier--surprisingly--has about the same level of talent as Stanford and Wisconsin)

I like our September better. We play 3 hard teams with an easier team sandwiched between them. Georgia Tech is tricky, but they don't have the meat on that front 7 like Michigan does. I can easily see Florida coming out of that opener very banged up.

Florida has avoided an L to Vandy for far too long. They should be on a two game losing streak.

Seeing SECN guys predicting a loss to Florida, Im just not sure why? They not only got over the hump, but Florida looked like a lot more garbage down the stretch than UT and now will play THREE QBs against Michigan. I really see Michigan taking them to the woodshed. Is it just because its at home and they think Dormady/Gman will fold?
Im worried about the Vols and it IS Florida, but putting myself as a neutral guy, I'd still pick the Vols over UF (while probably picking an L to Georgia and LSU).

They looked a lot more like garbage down the stretch than we did last year? I don't think so.

After we beat them last year, we finished the regular season 4-4 in our last 8 games....including a 7 turnover game vs TAM, the worst loss in program history to Alabama, a loss to a bad SCar team when we were coming off a Bye week, wins vs Mizz and Ky were we gave up over 1,300 yards combined in those 2 games.....and a loss to Vanderbilt where we gave up 600+ yards and 44 points after being thoroughly dominated in the second half. We completely cratered after putting up a really good fight in that loss to TAM, despite some very sloppy, undisciplined play.

By contrast, Florida finished 5-2 in their remaining 7 regular season games after beating Vanderbilt, Georgia, SCar......and LSU on the road to secure the East division title, despite missing 7 starters.

As far as why people are picking us to lose vs UF....I'm guessing it's because of our history and a general lack of confidence in Tennessee and Butch given our failures the last two seasons, and the belief that McElwain will get it done/win the East again since he won it in his first 2 years despite having no business whatsoever doing so during a rebuild.

Haha. Yep. This year could be it too.

Vandy gets Florida at the perfect time. The week before LSU and after a pretty rough September of SEC games and the Michigan opener.

Florida BARELY won that game last year. Derek Mason will want that W.

Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but out of those four years, I don't believe they've picked the winner of the East correctly, even once. I'm sure one of them has but I mean majority rule consensus.
Considering they are generally only picking between 4 teams, you would think by law of averages, they would have gotten it right at least once.

Contrarian indicators, imo.

Think about it like this.

Mcelwain is Larry Coker 2.0
Coker just took Butch Davis's players and won a natty and played for another one. But then once all those studs left over 2-3 seasons, he couldn't recruit with near the success or run the program at the level that Davis had....so he was fired and Randy Shannon was hired.

Mcelwain took Muschamps elite defensive studs and leaned on them enough to win the east twice.

Coincidentally, Florida just hired Randy Shannon as their defensive coordinator Lolol.

But back to my point. Mcelwain walked into a stacked defensive roster full of 1st and 2nd round starters at every position group. Florida had one of the top 10 most talented rosters in cfb when Muschamp was fired.

You have to remember. Mcelwain was SPECIFICALLY hired to fix Floridas offense. That was the only reason he was considered for that job. They hand picked him to run that offense and build it up. He has failed at the job he was chosen to do. And he is ruining their defense while being there. He is to Florida, what Larry Coker was to Miami. He will have short term success, but now that the cupboard is empty, he will fall flat.

And hopefully Florida promotes Randy Shannon to head coach once Mcelwain is fired. Haha. Wouldn't that be beautiful? After all, when Meyer took Florida to its heights....Miami cratered. Now Miami is coming back.....and Florida is cratering....

Oh, and another parallel, Mcelwains first two recruiting classes....are very comparable to Al Goldens first two recruiting classes at Miami. Lololol.

It's hard to pick this game especially when the Gators are such a dumpster fire right now.

Reading this thread it would seem our talent level is trending up relative to UFL. Looking at the 247 recruiting results I don't see a significant talent difference. Seems we are recruiting neck and neck with them.

UFL Has recruited receivers but needs better QBs. We have three QBs that could start at FL, and we could use 2 of their highly rated receivers. Not that we don't have very capable receivers.

At a neutral location our game with FL would be 50/50. Playing at their house gives them an advantage. If our oline really is the strength of our team we could do well there.

UGA has the most talent in the East but somehow Butch seems to have their number. I prefer Butch's offense to Chaney's. Playing here it looks very close to another 50/50, but Charlton better have the seconday ready. I am counting on Shoop earning his money in this game.

USC will give us more problems than KY, MO or Vandy. Just look at the team talent levels.
Bama beats us up and with injuries we loose to LSU.

UT. UFL
2014. 7th 9th
2015. 4 21
2016. 14 12
2017. 17 11

Anyone who is truly neutral will be picking FL. You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise....

To hear them tell it, Tennessee is the only team with unknowns to factor into the predictions, plus, all our opponents have solid, predictable teams and will always play at the top level of their game. Makes me wonder why we even play the games!

We beat Florida AND Georgia.

Go Vols!

Yeah. Florida seems to possibly have some foundation problems and the cracks are starting to creep up the walls.

If they lose to Michigan bad and then we beat them by any amount....I would say the ceiling will start to cave in at that point.

Or......they go on to win the East for the third straight year despite having absolutely no business to do so.

don't believe they'll be playing 3 QB's when we meet them, but according to history, I can understand the talking heads going with the Gators...me...we win...and that's the way it is...just the way I roll...:)

GO VOLS!

I know it's hard to believe, but times do actually change. Maybe not at the pace everyone wanted or expected.

But I do know that stable programs don't have 9 players in trouble during spring camp, a 3 way QB race a week from the season beginning, a graduate-transfer QB bad mouthing your head coach in public, your other QB getting into tweet wars with fans and calling the fan base "goldfish" , two straight recruiting cycles that were way off track compared to the past 10 years......and still maintain that level of success for very long.

You are watching Florida football implode. Kiffin/Dooley style. You should kick back, relax and enjoy the show. It happened to Miami, it happened to Texas, it happened to SoCal, it happened to Penn state, it happened to Tennessee....now it's Floridas turn for a decade in the dumpster.

On September 2nd at 3:30, it will become very obvious how far Florida football has fallen....it will get ugly for them.

Hahaha. Omg. The earth would collapse in on itself if that happened.

I am hoping Vandy upsets Alabama in a couple weeks. I literally just want exploding heads on every forum. Especially the people on here living perpetually in the last week of 2016 and all of the Alabama humpers on every news network.

That would be epic.

Yep.
No one should be confusing the fact that UF has won the division 2 years straight with very mediocre teams. That's an indictment on the competition. And most realistic Gator fans would tell you as much.

I don't know how much UF will slip going forward or how long they allow it before making a change, but no one else including UT has taken advantage of it yet. And that's why you see the opinions that you do. It's not that they think it should go that way, its just the way its been going.

At this point, no one knows what Tennessee will do, all the returning players that had injuries, freshmen that were redshirted last year etc. etc. 121 is NOT 120, in some ways better. After hearing comments from players and coaches, the chemistry of last year's team was not very good and add all the injuries, sort of a perfect storm to undermining a promising year. IF this team goes 3-0......watch out, confidence to a cohesive team is the best thing to winning games others feel you shouldn't. At this point, let these men play and prove all the Volnation right of how good they are. I think most pundits are underestimating this team....but that is me.

Go Vols!!
