No, this is the "let's see if I can get any readers to subscribe for insider access by temporarily using the phrase 'developing story' before removing it and acting like it was never there" thing.

This is why posts like this should never be made on here. Not that OP meant any bad, but there was never any factual proof of anything. It was all speculation. And as always, VolNation has begun to guess and make things up.

When you get to 3rd string we're talking Freshmen here. There's a learning curve from HS to college just like College to the NFL. Hard to blame our coach for having to put people in that he wanted to redshirt.

How anybody who follows the Vols just causally didn't realize we had NO DT in that game is simply beyond me..,I've posted this so many times I'm copying and pasting now. Not for sure if they really don't know or are just throwing wads at the ceiling thing...

Not very often that I defend a journalist. I'd say your cynicism is well earned. But I'm familiar with Brown's work over the years, and Patrick is actually one of the good-guy professionals.

I can imagine several scenarios where Patrick would know (either confirmed, or from an unimpeachable source) something he couldn't yet print. He could put it out there that "something is about to impact this situation" but little more until it was okayed.

Anything health--not injury, but health--related would be private because of HIPPA laws. Some things are up to the parents to okay for public knowledge.

Similarly, a player could be involved in an investigation without having attained "under investigation" status. If investigators later say they couldn't corroborate the initial story, it dries up.

Whichever, if Patrick was subsequently told that this story was not going to be made public, or had ceased to be a current reality, it makes sense that he would remove the "tease" as soon as it was no longer going to become a story.

You can't argue with them. I really think they just don't know. They are the type that sees a score of a game and nothing else like starting lineup or injured list. To them, as long as you have 11 for each side you should win. They don't see the LBs and DBs struggling because our DL was so depleted. They just see we suck and everyone needs fired.

Yes.
He was great when he was in Chatt. covering Vols as a newspaper beat writer. Very professional.
Since this came from him, it concerns me that this story might have legs.
Can't we please get thru a fall camp without losing anyone?
