What is the big deal about National Signing Day?

Why do they put so much hype on "National Signing Day"? I understand most of the commitments sign on this date, but the big fish sometimes wait a couple months before they make their final decisions. If there is going to be a day for signing your LOI then it should be mandatory for all players. They shouldn't allow certain players to drag it out just so they can try to make a bigger name for themselves. You make your name on the field not dragging it out for months. It might make the player feel good about themselves, but it's not fair toward the other players on the teams.

You should be banned with 5 year show cause.

Because it's the only thing a CFB junkie has in between the National Championship and Spring practice. I can quit anytime...I just don't want to.

How can you be a college football fan and NOT make a big deal about NSD? It's the NFL draft for college football but better. These kids are pledging their loyalty to a college on their own accord. Who cares if a very few of them wait. Let them have their moment in the spotlight. For the vast majority of them NSD and their college playing days will be the pinnacle of their athletic career.

It's a day where you can relax, eat some pizza/wings and watch your programs new players.
