Seems that if you ask each person on the board what it means, each will give you a different answer.

When I think of "talent" as it relates to football, I think of being able to make plays in football. It's a pretty simple definition in my case, but I would be curious to know what others would consider to be a "talented" player...

Someone with talent is a playmaker or someone who is a gifted athlete and can do things that regular player can't do.

Talent is a combination of physical and mental abilities. You can have average, great, excellent, etc, talent. Tennessee has had excellent talent.

I knew I would reel one in!

Just because somebody has 4.3 speed or has a prototypical height/weight, does that mean that they are a talented football player?

Was Leonard Scott a "talented" football player?

He played Division I. 99% of football players never will be able to say that.
Just answer the question.

Was he a talented football player?

Nobody is arguing that he was an "talented athlete". I guess what I'm saying is, Ive seen a lot of "talented" athletes, but I haven't seen too many "football players".

Big difference.

Now either that "talent" hasn't been developed or we are missing the mark in recruiting. Are we recruiting guys just based on 40 times, bench press or some other metric, or are we finding guys that just aren't being coached up to their potential?

I think you are making a good point, but I also think that wasted talent is not always as a result of not being coached up.

The answer is yes. UT never utilized him properly. If you stuck Peyton Manning at tight end, he'd look like a pretty crappy football player, too.

If our coaches are missing the mark on recruiting, then the people who spend the most time watching these football players are also missing the mark.

Again, a lot of good athletes, not too many football players...

Correct, but that's usually why when you hear the word talented a lot of times you hear talented athlete or talented football player. Lebron James is a talented athlete, Peyton Manning is a talented football player.

A high school QB that was dominant and came to UT to receive his first WR coaching from an insanely incompetent instructor. Wrong.

yeah, TVA used a bad example there... if Meachem was in the same class as Hannon he would have been in the same boat.

Reminds me of the scene 300 when the general leading another group of Greek troops asked Leonidas why he hadn't brought more "soldiers". Leonidas then asked a few of the other "soldiers" what their occupation was. They called out blacksmith, writer, etc...

Leonidas turned and asked the Spartans what their occupation was...

Leonidas then tells the general, "See, I brought more soldiers than you did..."
